My relatively modest G1 collection.
My first G1 photo! Vintage Optimus Prime actually photographs as good or better than MP-10. Hope you guys like it!
Lol yep there's a lot of nostalgia attached to this one even though he's so worn out. I'm not exactly sure what version mine is. I grew up in Australia and it was bought some time between '88 and '92/93 before G2 started. Has the more indigo blue like yours. I can't find any year stamped on the figure or trailer though? I have it in my head he came in the grid box but being so long ago I could be wrong I don't think it was the gold classics box though.
I recommend getting the Walmart G1 Optimus Prime reissue so you don't have to try repainting your vintage G1 Optimus Prime.
I recently pre-ordered Vintage reissue Blaster. I hope Hasbro releases a Steeljaw/Rewind 2-pack at some point
The Technobots overall are my second favorite Autobot Combiner group from G1. I’ll showcase my #1 favorite soon, just waiting on some Toyhax stickers for them. But I always loved their unique look and color scheme. They make a very bold statement as to their strength and intelligence.
And all this makes for a very tough looking gestalt mode. Presenting Computron.
I gotta say this is a very satisfying set of bots. They look great together, as a group and as a whole. I really dig the Toyhax enhancement set for Computron. I love that it gives him his look from the cartoon when he’s “computing.” I like that it also gives Lightspeed some much added color to his combined form so he doesn’t look so blank. It really helps bring the overall look together.
And as you can see from the second pic, it is possible to store all the bots’ weapons while in combined mode. Got a little creative, but it’s doable. Also, there is a way to make him look a bit sleeker, while adding some height to him.
You can fold Lightspeed’s hood behind him just enough to have clearance for the foot peg. Turn him and Nosecone around and that hides the kibble better. I guess you could leave them both extended either way for the height, but turning the legbots around makes him look more svelte. I like both ways honestly, I just thought it was a cool option.
Computron has a really powerful vibe to him. If only he were faster and didn’t overthink things so much, I think he would be much more effective a character. That’s mainly why he’s my #2 pick. The look is impeccable, but he has some character flaws that hold him back. Granted my #1 team has flaws too, but they have a different purpose and mission that I find more endearing. But as it stands, Computron is still cool.
Bit of Trainbot love today. Interesting to see if the MP Raiden rumours pan out. I'm out of the MP game but would like to see how they approach the design.
"Hey! Whose the new guy?"
I'd be interested in a Trainbots set, no doubt...
You mean this VHS?
I was living in Europe when it came out on VHS, so my first video of it was the PAL version. Bought it on a trip to London.
Nice set! MP Raiden was officially announced so he's definitely coming
Looks brilliant @Embee Prime . If you don't mind me asking how long have you had him for and did you get him online?
Mine is on the way, very pleased. I've seen almost all video reviews of him I can find, are there any parts to be wary of?
Yep that’s the one - I’ve still got it somewhere, I posted in here a couple of months back my VHS stash that survived from childhood
I've had my JP Headmasters collection for over 15yrs but never had any desire for Stepper and Artfire, but now that I'm expanding I want them.
UGH!!! These pandemic prices and supply. Impossible to find and so much more expensive than even a year ago!
That's a nice Prime you have. There's something special about a figure that's worn and battered and weathered, especially if it was yours as a kid.
Finally picked up a Shockwave and my missing Throttlebots; I'm not sure it would be an equal face off!
They are all great though!
Thanks @thundercrackalacking ! I've had him for about 12 years now, I was lucky enough to win him for a good price on eBay, and from a local seller so I avoided any customs shenanigans
Congratulations on finding a set, the Japanese G1 stuff seems to be really hard to find these days. I'm still on the lookout for a Metalhawk (narrowly missed out on an incomplete one recently), and the ever elusive Artfire. Post some pics when your Raiden arrives!
Nothing really to be wary of. As with all vintage G1 I'd recommend handling him gently, he's not overly fragile but better safe than sorry! The only issue I have with mine is the legs on Getsuei (the blue one) have gone a bit loose and won't stay fully extended, so he ends up a little shorter than his team-mates.
The combination is a little more involved than the standard scramble city type Gestalts. Heavy on parts-forming along the lines of his Diaclone compatriot Devastator.
Was finally able to score the chest cover for Doubledealer. He is officially 100% complete.
Just opened a random box in my storage (What’s in this random box of toys?) and found this guy:
I was surprised to see how mint it still is after all these years and it was one of my favorites back then too.
