These are three of my favorites. So cool, and I love the gimmicks on all three!
Some of my childhood Autobots though Prime is obviously upgraded.
Just G2 Gobot Mirage
Not an expensive or rare figure, but living in the UK I can't justify paying more for shopping than the figure, and I can only find it with US sellers.
I'm pretty sure that if you want a Skyhammer without GPS, you'll have to replace some pretty big parts with repros one way or another.
Yeah, there's a lot that can break on that figure if you so much as handle it. Repro parts wouldn't bother me if someone did them, I prefer to have originals, but for something like Skyhammer where he will break if you transform him, I'd be happy to make an exception.
I was always anti some of the other stuff like MM and Pretenders. Last year I decided to do them anyway so I staryed with Micromasters. Need to get on the Pretenders to. All the monster Pretenders are actually very nice..humans so so. But the price on some of them these days...sheesh.
No 16-S Black Megatron?.
Was one of my favorit and first repaint way back. Sold it to a friend who collects Megatron. Kinda miss all my ehobby stuff.
I have held this toy in my hands before. Though it did not belong to me, it was my brother’s, I still admired it. I was always a sucker for something sleek and black (let’s keep it clean, please). Plus, with my fascination for anything that can be in the water and my newly rediscovered love of Pretenders, Waverider was a must have for me.
He’s actually a lot slimmer than I remember too. But here he is in that glorious futuristic wet-suit of his. And as an added bonus, something that I have not had or seen in ages.
I did not pay that price on the sticker, got a pretty good deal actually. The box is beat to hell, but I got the original packaging with everything included; promo material, merchandise catalog, instruction manual, stickers still on the sheet, and the figure with accessories. This is just a beautiful thing. So nice to see original G1 box art again in person. And I’ll be eyeballing and drooling over that catalog for awhile.
Waverider’s inner robot is a nice, semi-glossy looking bot. Yes, I did apply the stickers because I like my figures to have cool stickers. I’m just surprised they were still sticky. Love the gold visor too.
Even amongst all the black, Waverider still has some nice molded details. A few more paint splashes on the arms and torso would’ve worked, but he’s still so slick looking. I can picture this bot being a diver.
In robot mode, the weapon accessory looks kinda awkward for Waverider. Mostly just because he’s holding it sideways, but oh well. He makes up for it in alt mode.
I really love this little submarine mode. The stickers really contrast well against the black. And more of the gold paint for the cockpit looks great. So simple, yet so awesome.
I know all of the Pretenders have very simple transformations and forms, but they still come across as having their own personalities and distinguishable alt/bot modes. I’ve found a new appreciation for this simplicity of style. Through their Pretender shells, color schemes, the land/air/sea themes, subtle design styles and transformations, and their use of accessories integrated with their alt modes, it’s all just a very effective package with so much play value. Both what’s on the outside and inside of these Pretenders is just a lot of fun and really cool to look at. Waverider is a good example of that and is a nice trip down memory lane. I may have to try and find another one to give my brother as a gift.
Hi, no, it's regular Megatron.
I had the unicorn that is a GPS-free Skyhammer, up until a year or so ago when my collection was sold. Twas a beautiful sight to behold...
Waverider is my favourite of the Autobot Pretenders, maybe cos he was the first one I got as a kid, but mainly because his inner bot is actually good!
Lucky! The last one I had my hands on, from a job lot I picked up, literally crumbled when I opened the jet shell up and put the smaller shell inside
With the new modulators based off the micromaster bases in Earthrise, I thought I'd dig out the originals -
Anybody else having trouble with reprolabels? I was gonna buy some decals but the cart seems to have disappeared.
I ordered stickers a few weeks ago. Didnt have a problem. Still waiting on them though.
It’s funny seeing how many G1 collectors kept Pretenders until the end, since I did the same thing
Like I’ve said before, just Groundbreaker and Carnivac to go...
When I got my Skyhammer over 15 years ago, I didn’t know about GPS yet. I tried forcing the gun into the smaller robot’s hand...and half the hand broke off. That’s what prompted me to learn about GPS. Now I treat that thing like fine china
Ouch. Also, I think the Pretenders are expensive precisely because everyone put them off.
Picked these two up last week - need some cleaning up and some toyhax labels to tidy them up. Also, can anyone recommend a way to tighten up Blurr’s arms? Floor polish or will
I need to try and take him apart?
It seems there site has been going on and off now and then. I've noticed its been happening the last few weeks. When you go to the site, you cant see the prices or the "add to cart" option. I was able to get an order in last week. Just keep checking back and you should be able to put your order in sometime soon.
Does anyone remember the Micro Machines playsets?
I won't be surprised if somehow Hasbro US took some inspiration from the OG version Mircomaster and used it for the Micro Machine playsets.
My childhood collecting of G1 ended in 1989 when I thought I was “too old”...so I switched to Micro Machines
I had a bunch of the playsets, including the big carry case. I sold the whole lot for a measly $50 a few years ago. Micro Machines did not hold their value very well.
