I'll just go ahead and ask about something I've wondered since I got Perceptor 34 years ago:
What is the deal with that little clip that's on his abdomen in robot mode, and folds down under the specimen tray in microscope mode? Is it meant to hold an actual microscope slide? Or does it have something to do with his third mode? I've never figured it out.

This is a criminally underrated toy.

I think it's supposed to be a light/mirror to illuminate the slide.

I'm talking about the other side of that mirror piece. If you flip it over there's a little clip on it.

Honestly, I always just assumed it was so you could use it as a handle to fold down the mirror

I'd also like to add that Perceptor has one of my favorite color schemes for a Transformers figure. I'd say he pops out the most on my G1 shelf. I agree that he's a very underrated figure.

Old Percy is an incredibile figure and a wonderful toy.
But when you come from that absolute miracle that the microchange line was, that's totally expected.
His only flaw is his color scheme, wich imho is way inferiore to his mc black/red one.
    Anyway, Longo live Dr. Percy!

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that all of my childhood TFs were tossed and/or taken by some “professional cleaners” from my mom’s basement some years back.

Well, I managed to dig up part of an old fossil that was sitting in a box of scraps. I have to admit that finding Rumble...albeit just the top half...brought a small smile to my face :) . He must have been chomped by Grimlock at some point, haha.

It’s interesting to compare the original vs the Encore reissue. I had read that they re-sculpted the reissues because the original mold was lost (or just old?) it but I didn’t realize how different the visor was! The reissue’s head is also a bit more narrow.

Anyway, I’m sure all of you veteran collectors are well aware of the differences, but I thought I’d share some pics regardless. Maybe if I do some more excavating I can uncover more of my lost childhood collection. Have a good night!

    Poor Frenzy.
I won't go there. He has real battle damage.

Finally have a display case big enough to house these. My restored G1 Omega with Siege and G1 Devs reissue with UW.

Sure, he’s a turbo-revvin’, young punk, but Hot Rod is still really cool.

Now for a 9 year old boy who saw the 86’ animated movie, it was a very emotional time. We all know what it felt like when Optimus died, but I never blamed Hot Rod for his part in it. He was doing his best to help Prime and stepped up when he felt he had to. His naïveté and brashness may have been a hinderance, but Hot Rod never gave up.

This was my favorite Transformer toy growing up. Hot Rod is just an awesome, fiery, sexy hot rod.

It’s curvy and beastly and I love it. The chrome is still shiny and the fire emblems really standout. I love that the engine is showing thru the hood like so many classic hot rods. He had such a fun and unique G1 style transformation too.....

.....that gives us a gorgeous looking Autobot.

I love how the hood becomes the chest and carries over that fiery sticker emblem. The Autobot symbol stands out very nicely against it. It’s a neat trick how the engine block flips around to reveal the head.

And how about that silhouette. The spoiler twisting around for his back gives Hot Rod one of the most iconic looks of the line.

Hot Rod was the future of the Autobots after Optimus. Full of the fire and passion needed to lead the Autobots. His inexperience and self-doubt sometimes made it harder for him, but he surrounded himself with great Autobot mentors like Kup, Magnus, and Springer to help. With him the leadership was more of a team effort, but Hot Rod never stopped trying to be better. That was his potential, to keep trying no matter what and become the best you can be. That’s the potential that made him worthy of the Matrix and it’s an important lesson for any 9 year old kid to realize. That’s why Hot Rod is one of the all time greats.

I found a G1 Bumblebee reissue at Wal-mart. All alone. He was 3 cents.

I love the Hot Rod/Rodimus toys, especially in vehicle mode, but I never could stand his character as Rodimus in the show.

Yeah, it was really weird. They clearanced all those mini-bots out while i was unemployed during the summer. i saw some Gears and Swerves for $5, but Bee was long gone. Until i found this random guy. I dunno if he was hiding or he got returned, or what. But he was hanging on an empty Legends peg, and I took him up front to check his price. That bugger was insta-bought. xD
