I don't remember seeing those micromasters on Energon cards. I only ever saw them on Universe cards.

Is very nice as little constructicon bots and combiner at least is stable, I also have problem always passing them, always, for not being the real toon characters but they can easily be another constructicon team , also for horns on combiner head .
"Scavenger"alt mode is very beautiful and also Long Haul bot mode. You have an amazing G1 collection Maz,I see you also have Micromaster,I always had passed them for not being in toon but I could proceed with a G1 Roughstuff and also a G1 Grotusque. It's beautiful that with him and Doublecross, Autobots have also dragons and similar creatures and then these toys seem resistant and articulated.

    Old boy, new stickers.

Actually not true, both the bot and the stickers are about 14 years old from the Takara book collection, I've just never got around to stickering them. For 14 years! Some of them longer. Crazy how time passes

The Bumblebee on the left in both pics is the early 90s China-manufactured one we got lots of in the UK (Woolworths etc). It's noticeable by the less saturated/rich yellow compared to '85 Rubsign Bee (centre) and the pre-rub '84 Bee (right). Also, unpainted yellow rear bumper!

Is this part of the same early 90s China releases that brought us the more indigo-than-blue Optimus Prime?

Did they all have unpainted rear bumpers? I can't remember if my original G1 one did actually, but I love the shade of yellow! What is the packaging like for these ones?

Packaging is almost identical to the 80s G1, except the copyright text on the rear is much much shorter, and they can be found with small stickers featuring the toy's character name in CHinese lettering on there occasionally. Yeah, part of the same manufacturing wave as gold box classics and the later wave of G1 grid boxes that come from China, like the recent Brainstorm case find etc.

    Very interesting.

When I bought a loose G1 Bumblebee on ebay in my early 20s to 'replace' my broken childhood one I didn't realise I might not be replacing it exactly!

    IMG_8692.JPG

Sure enough my single leg remainder is a different shade from the other one!

I don't really need a MISB one or anything. So the tell-tale sign is that unpainted rear bumper, when loose? Looks like I might have some casual hunting to do. I imagine they're rare enough to find in the condition yours is in?

I also kinda want a book collection Bumblebee with the black bumpers, but I imagine they might be priced a little high, so my Encore edition will have to do for the toon face!

Wonder if there's any differences between the Encore Bumblebee and the recent reissues.

There's the bumper thing, the shade of yellow and also the copyright, which has most of it covered with blocks.

Yeah there won't be loads of loose as good as this, but there are more sealed ones floating about as there were case finds of those.

    All the best

Most of it covered in blocks sounds familiar to my early 90s Optimus too!

Also just realised now that the book collection Bumblebee also has this cartoon-accurate yellow rear bumper.

Anyway, I guess focusing on ebay UK might be the way to go to try and track one of these down. Thanks for the pointers, as usual :thumb

Not to worry, and good luck!

Yep, that Prime was most likely a gold box Classic if purchased in the UK!

    I really miss mine...

Not gold box, it was the same as the 80s grid packaging. I think you featured one the same as mine on your blog once, mine was bought in Portugal.

    This old-timer’s seen it all

Did the gold box reissues also have this indigo blue, and the lighter shade of yellow for the eyes?
