The idea is to create a master list of production run variants on for the transformers G1 line. This list could also serve as a place to list packaging variants too if you guys want although that is not my first intention. I know most, if not all of the information can be found on in books and this and other websites, but I thought it might be helpful to some people to have a list so that they won't have to dig it up on a case by case basis. Organization of the list can come later if the thread is thought to be useful to anyone. Thanks Turboedguy for the idea and information you provided. I am sure I will leave a ton of stuff out so don't be to hard on me for that. Here are some of the ones that I can think of : All of the first wave 1984 transformers where available first without a rubsign and in 1985 were shipped with a rubsign. (Brawn, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Gears, Huffer, Windcharger, Bluestreak, Ironhide, Prowl, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Optimus Prime. Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Lazerbeak, Rumble, Ravage, Skywarp, Starscream, Thundercraker, Soundwave, Megatron) Bluestreak 1. diaclone colored version that is blue instead of silver. [this is thought to be a myth as no example has ever surfaced] Ultra Magnus 1. plastic tires (cab and trailer) non painted head (cab and "super" mode) 2. Rubber tires (cab and trailer) grey painted antennae and face on the big head. red eyes and blue face on the cab head Prowl 1. diaclone shield sticker on the hood of the car. pre-rub and Classics (early 90s version in Europe) 2. missing paint on the shoulders/ black shoulders Metroplex 1. Rubber tires with chrome hip pieces 2. Plastic tires with chrome sticker hip pieces Downshift 1. celica license plate sticker 2. black license plate sticker with no letters Optimus Prime ( need help with this one seems that there are quite a few) 1. blue roller 2. grey roller 3. purple roller 4. light blue trailer posts 5. dark blue trailer posts 6. bloated accessories (bloated fists, gun, gaspump,) 7. normal fists 8. red feet (french version?) 9. red eyes (mexican version?) 10. metal/ diaclone trailer 11. round smoke stack shoulder peg and square smoke stack shoulder peg The following were available with either plastic or rubber tires (let me know if I left someone out) Rodimus Prime, Kup (i think), Springer ( i think) Kup 1. plastic or rubber tires 2. metal or plastic feet (any other parts?) Hotrod 1. metal or plastic feet Predacons (headstrong, tantrum, razorclaw, divebomb, rampage) 1. completely plastic 2. some die cast metal and some plastic Jetfire 1. macross symbol painted on left wing 2. macross sticker on wing ( am i remembering this wrong?) 3. no macross symbol at all Bumblebee 1. red with or without rubsign 2. yellow with or without rubsign Cliffjumper 1. red with or without rubsign 2. yellow with or without rubsign Rumble and Frenzy 1. painted details on the chest (not sure if these were both prerub and rub) 2. sticker details on the chest Eject, Ramhorn, Overkill, Ratbat, Slugfest, Steeljaw, ( raindance, grandslam, beastbox, squaktalk?) 1. Gold or chrome weapons Ratchet 1. with or without a red cross on the roof Scramble city style combiners (Aerialbots, Stunticons, Combaticons, Protectobots?, Technobots?) came with either metal or plastic chests Constructicons (devastator) 1. Longhaul had a variant that did not have the peg hole in his chest for the Devastator chest plate. believed to be exclusive to the giftset. to start out I will leave it at this. I don't want to waste time if it is not a useful or legal thread. let me know what you think
blue bluestreak was never released as a transformer, on purpose or accident, or that is, there has never been a sample appear. there's also a red feet optimus prime variant off the top of my head
Rodimus with plastic or rubber tires Hot Rod with die-cast or plastic feet Predacons with die-cast or plastic (At least I think those all exist. Maybe there are a few more during the transition away from die-cast and rubber?) Jetfire's got all that Macross symbol drama and there's the yellow/red Cliffs and Bees. I guess Bumper would be considered less of a variant than a really cool production error. Didn't some cassettes have silver or gold chrome weapons?
Prime has a few. Bloated gun and bloated accessories like the refueling pump and nozzle. Metal sides trailer. reminiscent of the Diaclone trailer. instead of stickers inside the trailer, it was a piece of metal, so the magnetic feet of the diaclone drivers can stand on the metal. I cant remember but I think there was a few molds with diaclone trailer parts. The roller has no posts in the back and the pusher is a flat piece of plastic rather than the box with two holes. Im not sure when this mold change occured but Diaclone Convoy has round connections for the smoke stacks and the new ones have square connections. (where the smoke stack peg attaches to the upper arm)
Thank you Fakeyes22 and Starstriker! I moved your information to the list. I hope that's ok! Thank you Fakeyes22 and Starstriker! I moved your information to the list. I hope that's ok!
I see your point, however, there would be no way that I know of to load this list up with pictures. Also, if someone needs a picture to identify rubber tires from plastic ones all is lost.
Most of the scramble city limbs came with either metal or plastic chest plates Longhaul had a variant that did not have the peg hole in his chest for the Devastator chest plate... I believe it was exclusive to the giftset.
There are so many, I doubt cataloging them will be possible in this thread. If you really want to know more, hit up Freds variants page:Fred's Workshop And Maz's site, T-F1: TF-1 Those are two of the main sites I use to find variants.
Yup, its a French/Euro release. I own that one as well as 14 other G1 Prime variants. But there are probably 25+ different G1 Primes.
cool. I will definitely check them out. I appreciate all the help. I am starting to see how much of a chore it would be to create a list like this and maintain it, as well as verifying everything. I think you are right, time to let this one die. Especially if there are other places where everything is compiled already. Thanks again for the help! Also had no idea there were like 25 different primes out jeesh
