Tonight is this year's annual Game Awards. I think Uncharted 4 could and should win almost every category it's nominated for. I think it has to win Best Narrative, Best Art Design, Best Action Adventure Game, and hopefully Game of the Year. I'll be surprised if Nolan North doesn't win the Best Performance Award as a legacy award for bringing Nathan Drake to life. The only categories I could see it losing are for sound design (Battlefield 1 will get that) and soundtrack (Mafia 3 should take that). Speaking of Battlefield 1, I'll be surprised if it loses any of the shooter categories. Best DLC has to go to The Witcher: Blood and Wine. Plus, there will be new looks at Mass Effect: Andromeda and probably Death Stranding.
Uncharted 4 has been the only new video game I have played this year. Rise of the Tomb Raider is amazing, but that technically came out last year.
Lol UC4 has a ton of polish and a technical marvel but it hasn't stuck with me like I expected. Doom is easily my choice.
what time does the pre show start? i read that they are previewing the next update of rocket league then
Well that was stupid. Overwatch got game of the year. The least original game won. It's just team fortress 2 with league characters.
Out of all the games I bought this year, Overwatch is the one that I've spent the most time with and have enjoyed playing the most (with Battlefield a close second). I loved Uncharted 4, but like with Haloid, it just didn't stick with me. Though I still don't know if narrative-based games like U4 should really be compared with gameplay-based games like Overwatch, since they're entirely different experiences.
It was a solid show overall. I couldn't stand the musical acts, but I feel that way with most awards shows. Overwatch winning Game of the Year is ridiculous though. I have played it. It's a solid game that plays well, but it's not the be all end all of multiplayer shooters that people perpetuate it to be. I feel like Blizzard's name is helping that one more than anything. It lacks content plain and simple. They went to the trouble of giving you story fragments that they never expand upon in a singleplayer campaign. It has exactly the same amount of maps as Titanfall 1, but this game hasn't been criticized nearly as hard as Titanfall about the lack of a singleplayer campaign. Overwatch is not a bad game. It has a neat cartoony style and polished gameplay. I just think it's overrated and overhyped. It's more of a 7.5 compared to the 10's it has been getting. Uncharted 4's wins were well-earned. Naughty Dog is pretty much second to none in narrative and performances. Nolan North definitely earned his award for bringing my favorite video game character to life. I think it should have also won Best Action Adventure Game and/or GOTY. Doom winning Best Shooter was surprising but well-earned. I'd say it's the most fun if you only want to play singleplayer. Inside also earned its wins too, and I'm surprised it didn't win more. Best sound design/soundtrack should have been two categories instead of one. I can't wait to play Mass Effect: Andromeda. I still can't believe they're not giving us a definitive release date though. I don't know what the hell is going on in Death Stranding, but it looks amazing. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best looking Nintendo game in ages, but I can't understand it winning "most anticipated game." It looks like the open world could feel a bit stale and empty in my opinion. Also, they should have played it on the Switch instead of the Wii-U. Prey continues to impress, and I think it is definitely the first person game I'm looking forward to most next year. I need something to fill the Bioshock void. The Witcher definitely deserved one last win too.
I guess Blizzard paid the VGAs the most. I'm sorry, but Overwatch is an online only game, has no deep story, character development, thus, it should does not deserve to be GotY. That would be like giving a movie Best Picture for having amazing effects despite being poorly acted and made.
Yeah it's rigged, how could Overwatch, a game that is super popular win game of the year? It's a sham I tells ya!
So a game with great gameplay doesn't deserve to win anymore? I mean shit Doom didn't have a deep story, character development, but I think it deserved GOTY because it was the best playing game I've played in years. I'm assuming you'd tell me Super Mario Galaxy didn't deserve to win because it lacked a deep story or character development? Or any Zelda game? Like come on, movies and games are different mediums that are judged by entirely different merits.
Honestly, "games" that heavily relies on stories should not even be categorized as a game even worse win awards.
Best interactive movie award? Or the Dragon's Lair award? RPGs are an insomniac's dream. I fall asleep almost immediately.
