I agree, those look better than the standard molds from which they were taken. But those designs are from the transition period from “hybrid” to “toon” in the MP line. They adapt to toy design cues fairly well— Spinout the most, Artfire the least. The added tampographed detail on Artfire was welcome, but it has the feeling of a thin facade given the otherwise smooth, featureless surfaces of the Inferno mold. In my opinion, MMC has the better design.

As for Spinout, I think that mold is brilliant. Cordon is one of my favorite MPs. I would have loved the deep blacks, extra details, and (beautiful) head sculpt had they been applied to a yellow body so I could have a proper MP Sunstreaker. The awkward theater-mask face and faded greys of MP-39 leave me cold.

In general, I feel that the MP line has now— in most cases (Skids being an exception)— wandered too far into Sunbow territory to easily turn out Diaclone retools. They’ve honed the cartoon look to the point that the figures don’t look good apart from the animation models they’re trying to imitate.

A toy Trailbreaker would be nice, but I don't even know if its worth the effort for them. None of the bigger carbots molds (Ironhide/Inferno) have never even seen TT reissues, compared to the sporty cars there is probably a more limited market.

I wonder if there's some way to know for sure what a straight toy repaint of MP-56 would look like...

I’m always down for your toy decos, but Takara never pulls it off quite so well. If they issued a TB like that, I’d definitely be onboard. Those are a bit too lanky for a true toy homage, but still cool given the details.

Yeah, if we get anything, I think it will unfortunately be a simpler deco than I've shown, new head, and at most a set of unsatisfying stickers rather than tampos.

Thanks for the digibashes. They look beautiful and even if not fully acurate as homages to the Diaclone toys I'd love to buy those for real.
And I would be very happy with unsatisfying stickers if we wouldn't get that detail on those hypotetical toys.
A lot happier than I would be with unsightly frustrating and fragile waterslides or dryrubs. Stickers is how we used to apply those details to the G1 toys after all.
What I am sure of is that they'd never retool the mold so that he has a single-barrel pewpew behind each shoulder.

I think the digibashes look great and a total “meet in the middle” kind of compromise to the toon/toy debate. The MP-44 you did really drives that home and would be a perfect companion to the MP-36 toy release. Obviously the parts are all there to make a total toy version of Sunstreaker between all of the extra tooling and heads. That’s a great example of how updating the look while respecting the past would probably satisfy a section of the fandom. How many pieces that would be? Who knows. 3000? More? I don’t know what kind of numbers they crank these things out at.

Whenever the Trailbreaker repaints come, we'll probably get the yellow one first. It'll feel more fresh compared to the blue one that was already done in Generations

Still a chance we see Hoist or something before the year is over, not a very big chance though.

Hopefully they spend that budget on reissues, but guessing we'll see a TB repaint and a Skyfire repaint?, not like they have many other options for repaints.

I very highly doubt there won't be more announced/released MPs throughout this year.
We already know there is one more trainbot to be announced, and two others releasing in June and September. We also have Nemesis releasing at the end of this month, and Burnout in July. There will be an MPM or two. I have zero doubt we will get G1 MP announcements, and one or two G1 releases. I choose to stay positive.

Unless it's a MPM, or a takara mall exclusive, i really don't believe that we will se a new MP until next year.
And if they do the same thing that they do with every trainbot, next MP preorder will be in June.

So the 3p Devastator wars has begun, wondering if they want to shell out their combiner before takara one (probably next MPG)

It really depends on what direction TT goes. Realistic means more interest in the 'toon deco, 'toon deco means more interest in the realistic alt-modes.

Actually every MP (except Mp-44 and 45, who already have one) have toon deco on realistic alt mode. Considering that the combiner is composed by alt-modes merged, i think a MP 2.0. style is more probably. Constructicon on the other side could be more toonish than the trainbots.
