I know preamble and build up is Takara's MP "thing" but the way this year is panning out, I could really do with them just cutting the drawn out bullshit and skipping straight to resin prototypes of MP Screamer and Jazz, 1st & 2nd quarter 2021, so we all know exactly where we stand. :D

I would definitely have preferred a fully painted figure. Even a matte finish would have looked better over bare black plastic. It’s the flattest of the bare plastics. If it had the gloss, I might have tried to grab him despite his knees.

I much preferred the v2 approach they opted with Bumblebee. Just show off a fully painted prototype and release the damn thing 6 months later (well, ended up being 8 months for most people with the delay).

MP-44 was fun, but way too drawn out. It was almost anti-climactic by the end. For me anyway.

I don't know what's going on with the release schedule lately though. Hound took fucking ages to be released, and then when he did come out it was an absolute QC shitshow.

Paint-wise Prime and Bumblebee didn't fare that well in the QC department either. It's so weird how figures like Tracks, Ironhide, Inferno/Artfire can have rock-solid paint apps, but then even their mould-mates have problems with paint flaking (Ratchet and Grapple).

On the topic of Dean's question, I think at the end of the day I'd prefer solid plastic colours with a glossy top coat. I don't know if they don't do that because top-coats are easier to fuck up in the application process or what, but at least that way paint chips would be less visible. They are getting better at least at matching the underlying plastic to the actual paint colour. My Prime has a couple of small wear marks on his red and blue and it's nowhere near as noticeable as on Megatron.

Anyway, if they're pulling the long-tease with Starscream and he isn't coming out until late 2021, they damn well better show off at least one good G1 release by September that will come out Q1 or Q2.

I'm torn to be honest. I do love the glossy paint and I thought MP-49 would be painted, but I'm EXTREMELY OCD with paint on my figures and have zero tolerance for paint chips so having no paint to chip is sort of a relief. I have not transformed 49 yet. In truck mode I miss the gloss of MP-10B but it's not that bad because it's black. I think if 44 was unpainted it would definitely look bad to me. I suspect that 49 was a test to see how fans react. So far it looks like most are not happy so I would expect them to go back to painting.

My 44 is still chip free because I don't handle him as much as some of you. To the point where I can't remember how to transform it. If I get too many paint issues on a figure I will sell it and buy a reissue so with the price of 44 I'm being extremely careful with him.

From what I've seen on the boards the red and blue paint on 44 is very good and doesn't seem to chip much. It's the yellow pelvis parts and the grey stripe that are problem areas. It looks like they switched the pelvis parts to be molded in teal instead of grey for MP-49 so I think the yellow parts will be molded yellow on a 44 reissue. And the grey stripe seems to be holding up better on 49 as well. So I think it's a good possibility that a 44 reissue will have much better resistance to chips overall.

And the antennas are way better on 49 for sure.

Back to speculation I would love to know which seekers Takara is planning to make so I can decide what to sell from my MP-11 collection. And I'm still expecting to see someone new for next year besides Raiden. Hopefully more Decepticons.

I don't think it will be that long of a wait. We're pretty sure a prototype at the minimum is a thing. With no shows I think they don't want anything leaked and will probably release stock photos themselves and a follow up in Figure King. Of course Starscream could actually not be next and be in a situation like Dinobot but that just wouldn't make much sense on their end.

As far as that other figure, no way a studio series get announced before the MP version of a certain character. A certain character is a holy grail on whichever message board your on, dont see Takara letting Hasbro screw that pooch. Then I can go back to dreaming of a TT Menasor.

That was the great irony of the '86 movie. Killed off all these S1 characters, except for Jazz, and Scatman Crothers passes away around the time the movie came out.

I’ve come across 2 types of sources before at different moments, as of late, there’s an additional type that I’ve come across. We’re for 2 for 3 at this point.

Agreed on all points. On the subject of paint etc., Tracks stands out as one of my most solid MPs when it comes to his finish - even after years of posing and multiple transformations, it’s still holding up without any noticeable wear. A quick dust off once in a while and he’s like new.

I want to see the dinobots. I have fanstoys, but they take too many creative liberties with the design. I never understood why the dinos are seemingly not very popular in japan. I mean, dinosaurs that turn into robots??? C'mon. But most importantly, they need to get their QC under control. Way too much sloppiness lately

So I guess that Figure King is cool in that the CAD drawings for Starscream make him an official confirmed details pending along with Raiden, but a little bit of a bummer in that we got no actual new figures.

In retrospect, I think this was pretty unsurprising since there was so much WFC: Siege stuff in the issue.

For an announcement I thought it was ok, better then the constant teasing they did with MP-44. This is also supposed to be a celebration of the 35th anniversary.
Perhaps they'll have more to show of Starscream in the next issue.

I speculated when Starscream 2.0 was announced that we'll likely get on Jet per year until they're done. That's my hope! So Starscream in '21, hopefully the og trio will be done in '23 unless TT throws us a curveball and does a Sunstorm first (that's what they did after MP-11).

On another note, I was talking to some buddies about how Hound is paired with Ironhide on the back of his box and was wondering just how rando and arbitrary that really is. I was thinking about how there's a precedent of new figures being paired with older figures on their boxes and then the older figure soon gets a + release or a complete re-do. Inferno was paired with the og Red Alert on his box (RA got a + release), Sunstreaker was paired with the og Sideswipe (SS got a + release), and Bluestreak+ was paired with 21 Bumblebee (45 Bumblebee was released shortly after). There may be more, those are just off the top of my head. I've said it before, but it seems really suspicious that TT's never gotten around to a black Diaclone van release 4 1/2 years after MP Ironhide. I'm certainly down for VanBros 2.0!

well Sunstorm would save me money but I hope they go right for SW/TC myself. One a year in any case is probably ideal. I find the Maketoys mould works better for Skywarp and Thundercracker than it does for Starscream but I’d still like all 3 replaced as quickly as possible. It’ll be so cool to have the full Decepticon side of the ‘84 toy catalogue back to being done “official”.

I don’t feel like I “need” an upgrade on the vans but I’ll take one if they make one! Although I do think Ratchet in particular holds up fine...of course the bumper could transform a little more...and I dislike his Autobot symbol...and of course the hip flaps...hmmm maybe I DO want a v2.

Couldn't agree more about having the og Jet trio in the new mold!

Can you imagine the Vans with no bumper in bot mode, no hip flaps, an ab crunch, and deep knee and elbow bends? Imagine how much that'd help ol' Ratchet to kneel down and bend his arms as he works on his buddies!

It may have been as simple as Hound looking good next to Ironhide. Green is kind of a weird colour since it’s a secondary, and depending which primary makes up the dominant share of it (high blue or yellow), it can affect how it appears next to certain other shades.

The unfortunate thing with Hound is that because he was the original audience entry character, they never did much with him after they shifted to Bumblebee, so there’s not a ton to draw on for posing him. With no Mirage and updated Ravage to use, Ironhide is a good bet since he was around a lot with Cullen doing double-duty with he and Prime. Also, Prime has a lot of blue, so he probably didn’t make Hound pop standing next to him.

It's certainly possible, but then Hound was also notably paired with Bumblebee a few times (Insecticon Syndrome) and Sunstreaker (The Movie, Dinobot Island) and yellow really makes that green pop, too. If they wanted Hound with red and for some reason felt Prime's blue wouldn't go well with green, they could've used Inferno, who not only famously had Hound pinned down in the rubble in Insecticon Syndrome, but can be considered one of the "new batch" hyper articulated complex cartoon figures that arguably doesn't need a redo.

Like I said, it could've been random, but there's definitely precedent for it not to be.
