And it's just as true if you change 'toy' to 'toon'.

Make it overly toy like or toon like, and it's going to look a mess.

Personally, nothing either way. I love MP-10 and MP-36 looks great next to MP-10 to me. However many people want much more toon accuracy and more articulation for their new Prime. I'm not interested in either personally but understand the desire. I also understand why other people are upset about the possibility of a soft reboot after investing themselves in the existing line.

I wasn't interested in a V3 Prime for the longest time, but I have to admit over the last year I'd like to see one. BUT...only if it's not a half-assed remold of MP-10. Do all an all-new mold with all the bells and whistles, or don't bother. But please, Takara, in addition to V3 Prime, can we get some new G1 characters to go along with him? :)

I disagree. The toon heavy stuff looks great. There are certainly some designs that could benefit from a bit of detail here and there, but I’m loving it. The difference is that the toon stuff was designed to look that way on the screen, so they can match up to a irl design more effectively.

Now, if you prefer the details of the toys, fair enough, but in all honesty, a lot of that detail done up macro makes for a poor look by over-complicating a design on a larger figure. The classic toys maxed out at five or six inches in height for the most part, and they used the stickers to add detail where the toys couldn’t possibly be filled out. I love them, but I don’t enjoy the sticker kits that replicate the classic stuff, so I’ll take the current look.

The Dinobot toon/toy debate got me thinking. If official Dinobot actually got released at this juncture they would surely be toon based and I'm perfectly content with that however I would really love to have the option to have the dino legs exposed in bot mode. Much like the conjecture regarding Jazz's door wings. I am a fan of the toon aesthetic but I like the chunkier look of the Dinobot toy legs .

    There’s always one isn’t there chaps? ;)
Whether someone likes it or not, toon likeness is the way the line has gone, and it’s here for the forseeable. In a few years they may decide to release some really well articulated ‘toy’ like MP’s, but at the moment toon is king.

And tears about them doesn’t line TT’s/Hasbro’s pockets. Toon accurate MP’s are. Looking forward to more ‘86 movie battle recreations with V3OP.

Why couldn't they make the + releases of the carbots look like the cars they're based on but keep the colors and robot mode of the toon without doing stuff like painting over headlights or tires? It worked for the vans, Fuso's, and Sunstreaker so why the need to paint over headlights and tires?

Painting over 14+'s headlights was probably a step too far in toon-accuracy, don't think anyone disagrees with that.

Sideswipe+ has grey tyres because his animation model did:

If he were designed now I can imagine those tyres on his legs would be fake in order to make them grey. Or hell, maybe they wouldn't even look like tyres at all, just like half-discs.

I may not be the only one who since the Mp10 was released thinks that a 100% toon transformable optimus would look better than that.
Who said it was going to be a MP10 remold though?.

On the other side, it just doesn't works as remold, the legs also need to be re-designed overrall, and, looking at the sketches again, the little pieces of kibble around the side of the abdomen could be result of a similar transformation as the MP36, in the sense of having not the abs of the sides completed, wich would be a bad start IMO.

I'm sure this is definitely a new mold.

Here's what I would like to see- I do not expect to see it but...

    MP-42 Jazz
    MP-43 Brawn
    MP-44 Trailbreaker
    MP-45 Gears
MP-21+ Bumblebee- in time for the new Bumblebee movie
    MP-21+C Cliffjumper
    MP-46 Hound
    MP-47 Windcharger
    MP-48 Mirage
    MP-49 Huffer
MP-50 V3 Optimus Prime which would essentially complete the Ark cast with a bang. Throw in + releases for Wheeljack and Bluestreak somewhere in there. Prime could be released just in time for Christmas 2019.
MP-51 Starscream and then inevitable Skywarp and Thundercracker updates hopefully with Sunstorm, Hot Link, Bitstream, and Nacelle as well.
    MP- 52 Grimlock

I agree with all of this. The V3 Prime has to come with a trailer. I'd also like to see some sort of energy sword as well- but that's not cartoon accurate and just me probably.

It is an exorbitant amount of figures, but with Hasbro now unifying the line- who knows? I could definitely see them wanting to make a huge splash though.

Why don’t you have Cliffjumper as his own number? He’ll be a completely new mold, not a retool of Bumblebee.

I’m guessing it’s so Optimus can be MP-50. I’d rather he be 51 in that lineup so Cliffjumper can be done right. :)

Maybe they'll do what Hasbro did with their renumbered line. They released Takara's MP-10 as their MP-10 so that Optimus would get that number, but they never actually produced an MP-9 :D

I'm not a fan of the toon-centric direction TT are taking the G1 line in. It works for Beast Wars as for the most part it's a good representation of thier on-screen appearance people crave(although Primal did get a toy/BW2 repaint that suggested toy deco repaints might be on the table). G1 is a far more complex beast for a lot of us, much more healthy nostalgia exists for the toys and comic books. Now I'm willing to conceed that toon nostalgia outstrips that, especially in Japan and the US, but as someone who often prefers the toy and/or comic book look of many G1 characters I did prefer the more balanced approach of earlier MP and I don't think I'm alone in that.

However it is what it is, that is what has been decided by TT and I will have to live with it. I imagine it will mean I buy less official G1 releases and with the rapidly inflating price tags maybe that is no bad thing. I only wish TT were to use the plus line to give us more choice rather than retcon previous releases in the line towards thier new vision. Imagine a regular and plus release of every figure, one sporting the toon look and the other more balanced or toy orientated? I had hoped we might see a 'plus' Shockwave in a deep 'toy' purple or a 'plus' Ratchet in comic book deco, I dared to imagine a future MP Galvatron in anime AND toy/comic colours. That seems completely out of the window now.
