Yeah, but they've done that before too! Inferno to Grapple was 50% new parts, so there's precedent.

Listen, all I'm saying is that we should be mentally prepared for a significant remold, all the way to totally new, but given that they are dealing with some financing issues, a remold would make sense, and let them have a pretty significant update to their cash cow character.

I think this is a more likely explanation. It will no doubt share some design cues but aesthetically it'll be different and if this is really being made to compliment MP36 the articulation needs improving drastically. That being said I'd guess a few steps will be the same as MP01 & 10.....purely because it's the best way to do it for the character.

Oh and they best give us battle damage options.....maybe a few sound clips too :)

The only thing I think Prime v3 and MP-10 should maybe share is The Matrix.

Mmm, talking about guns, what if Takara remolds the MPM Optimus Prime for a BUSTER edition?, that figure will last 10 years (just as that movie) in 2019.

Parts wise I agree but transformation/engineering wise I'd put money on there being alot of similarities. V3 will just go further in cleaning up the robot mode. There are only so many ways you can get a G1 Prime transformed for the main part, the rest is aesthetics and streamlining.

Oh and the sound effects would probably be better in his nice chunky ion blaster.

Things I think he should include:
    Energy ax
    Full sized gun
    MP-10’s matrix
    Battle damage effects
    A new trailer
    Roller
Cart/turret thing that can be interchanged with the main turret like in “fire in the sky”, and MTMTE
    Alternate faces
    Arm communicator

Sure, that's only natural, just like MP-1 and MP-10. I guess a gun with sfx could be cool. I was thinking sfx would come from his trailer but the gun would make more sense.

Only accessory I can think of I think would be cool we haven't mentioned is a translucent blaster effect to put on his gun (like Ironhide's flames, Inferno's water, etc). Maybe they could even make flame effects to recreate his iconic transformation in The Movie so you could display him with those on his flight stand.

    That would be awesome!

I think I'd prefer a light-up ion blaster, I'm not crazy about Japanese sound bites. Would've preferred the same for Megs, though I do love having the transformation sound at the touch of a button.

Anyone think they'll try doing light-up eyes?

How often did they light up like that?

Sorry, but like others I don't buy the idea that a new Optimus Prime will be a remould of MP-10.

It's just not possible with the current focus on cartoon accuracy. I love MP-10, but I've Always disliked the length of his legs: I think they're too short. The oversized KO, MPP-10, looks proportionately more accurate than MP-10 due to his longer legs. And this can't be solved by simply giving MP-10 some remoulding and longer legs, because then he'll be too tall.

A v3 Optimus needs to have a slimmed down torso and longer legs to fit next to MP Megatron. And you can't achieve that by remoulding MP-10. Okay, you can if you first scale down the figure, then do the remoulding.

Hm, no, I don't. Since MP-5 we knew MP Megatron as a gun was anything but impossible, and Coneheads were only considered impossible to be simple remoulds from MP-11 -- and the Coneheads we got were pretty heavy remoulds and honestly still not enough.

I don't accept impossible. As Spock said, there are always possibilities. That doesn't mean there aren't things that are (very) unlikely -- like my wished for Masterpiece Nightbeat that very likely will never happen since Nightbeat doesn't exist in Japanese G1.

But yeah, Bumblebee was deemed unlikely for the longest time and when it happened it was made clear that it was thanks to the merger with Tomy and Hasui feared that making him chibi would endanger the license.

I think the increase in accessoiries is in part thanks to 3rd party. They included more and more and since TT has increased the number, also in part of course thanks to increased budget. Maybe especially the budget, since Sunstreaker and Megatron have made clear that TT is willing to invest money since they realise there is a market for adult collectables after all. In that light, I would especially consider Ultra Magnus illuminating. Made on such a tight budget and so incredibly cheap compared to much smaller, later releases. All indicative of TT being willing to spend more.

Man this threas has exploded with excitement, and I haven't yet caught up with the discussion--so forgive me if these thoughts have already been postulated.

    Conspiracy theory time!

Ideally an MP Optimus Version 3.0 in this new era of synchronized releases from Takara & Hasbro means the continental relaunch of the line!

Larger distribution could mean they maintain the new standard of quality without increasing the prices any more than the already steep $90 for a car scale robot.

Here's my really out there contribution:
If they're pushing ahead and possibly FOREGOING LICENSING for the remaining carbots (Jazz, Mirage, the minibots), then MP-39 Sunstreaker functions as the transition much the same way that MP-9 was a functional transformer that scaled between both the old and new lines (Hot Rod for the old MP-1 Optimus and MP-5 Megatron, Rodimus for everything after).

After reading the initial reports I was going to say I could get on board with a V3 Prime, BUT it needs to be nearly perfect and compromise-free...at least in the proportions dept of both modes. IF the above quotes comes to be, this is an epic fail on TT's part. MP-10s legs, and more so his alt mode ass end is unacceptable for the 3rd pass at this character in this line. TW's Primorion is the score to beat right now. Admittedly, his head could be better, but his proportions in both modes look better than MP-10. If that thing wasn't inexplicably an inch taller, that would probably be my MP Prime right now. Primorion should be easily toppable, though...he's good, but not THAT good.

I'm really hoping and wishing for a whole new Prime mold sans trailer(to keep cost down) .
I do really like the idea of new chest window openings as it's one of the biggest dislikes for me . The change I'd really like more is to hide the wheels in the legs.
I'd have to say 3rd from the top of that list is either lengthen the legs some or shorten the arms OR spit the difference between the two.
For me personally it needs to be much improved for me to by it at release or I'll just sick with my original plan of getting Toyworld's version. I'm not saying I won't ever pick up a MP V3 of Prime but it will fall to the bottom of the want list is all.

I tell ya, since reading about this last night, I've been doing that Homer Simpson jig he does when he's excited. Hot damn!

When MP-10 came around, I was feeling cynical about collecting in general and seeing another Prime at a price there was no way I was going to be able to afford at the time just ::blech::. Plus the thing was smaller! Why the hell would I want a smaller Prime than MP-01! Then MP-11 is another Starscream meaning Thundercracker and Skywarp? Yeah, I was out and initially missed out. Ended up getting the Toysrus MP-10 for Christmas along with their Thundercracker. I ended up REALLY liking them, despite some weird tampo choices on the latter, but what really sold me and dragged me right back into collecting was MP-12. I saw the promise then of what was to come with this line and I haven't looked back.

I say bring on this third version of Prime. Make it be the end-all-be-all; the one that gets reissued time and time again throughout the next two decades because it's THAT good. Give him a jetpack, a flight stand, the axe, the matrix, the iconic rifle, Roller, battle damaged pieces similar to MP-36's. Make the inside of the trailer customizable with the tower thingy able to be detached and replaced with the turret thingy from those random appearances. Also, either a swappable grill piece with a reflection of Thrust in it OR make a space in the grill where you can insert a piece of paper like the windshield/chest inserts that Ironhide/Ratchet have that create a lenticular effect of Decepticons reflected in the grill?

I'm super excited and probably going to be humming Stan Bush tunes until we see more of this. If Jazz gets revealed along the way, I might actually start to emit a Matrix-like light!

Hasbro releases a Prime 3.0 what fo they pair with to encourage sells. Takara will promote mp36 to go with a new prime or why you should get a new prime, but what will Hasbro offer? Wouldnt be surprised see a Decepticon next year. Though I doubt TT empties the banks and releases Galvatron, would Hasbro release a Shockwave or heaven forbid a new Starscream. I just dont see what big name Decepticon left that Hasbro feels they could market as a foe for prime.
