I'd like a full crew before I die/retire from collecting. Giving this another ten to fifteen years and then liquidating is starting to sound sensible. That, more than anything else, is making me warm to 3rd party. Ten years from now we're likely to have maybe twenty more G1 characters than we do today? Probably less than thirty. I can easily name thirty G1 guys Takara is likely to make without even naming half the guys I want them to make.

Right now I'm guessing both Blaster and Hound are our 2018 G1 guys, as far as new molds. If Blaster doesn't get announced at the cassette pack's release, then I'll switch him out for Galvatron (until/unless MP40's release comes and goes without a Galvatron announcement... then somebody else moves up. I dunno, this changes day to day anyway).

 

I would strongly suspect a red, or police deco sunstreaker as well next year. Or both.v

 

I've heard people mention it before but if they do release a police car Suntreaker they really should give him a new head, make him a Decepticon and call him Barricade. I think that would be really cool.

It's odd though... they seem to be less enamoured of repaints to make other characters right now. We've got Shockwave, Cheetor, Megatron, and Ironhide (well, he has Ratchet, but the Diaclone repain) all without a repaint right now. It seems unusual since it's always been a key part of how Transformers work as a line. There have certainly been other repaints recently, say Delta Magnus. It might just be that they're spacing them out more now.

Why does everyone assume that the insecticons will be sold as a set rather than individually if they decide to make them? And if they do Spinout and police sunstreaker, will they have the vents in the ears this time around?

Personally, I've never believed for a second that they'd group all 3 Insecticons together. They're each bigger than 'Bee, but smaller than a carbot. Based on pricing these days, that'd be a $300 box set... or they could space them out and have three separate releases of characters.

The trouble with them is that their Diaclone versions are basically the same, and I don't think there are any G2 repaints (5 mins to someone proving me wrong), so repaint potential is limited.

I'm not on the Insecticon boxset train either.

I do expect a more toy-accurate head remold on the Diaclone Sunstreakers. Maybe something completely new for one of them. But not a reuse of the cartoon Sunstreaker head.

 

I would much rather see Barricade on the Smokescreen mold.

I suspect people are expecting it due to the G1 reissues being a box set.

Personally, I hope they'd do them together too, if they do them.

 

It'd be cool, but it just doesn't really make sense. Packaging 3 reissues together is one thing, but MPs don't really go that way. It's even easy to assume that the Insecticons are small... but they're not really that small when you think about how they go about doing character sizes, and that we usually only see a few new moulds every year. That's the bulk of a full year's output all at once.

Takara doesn't seem to distinguish too much between the size of carbot-ish characters - probably because most of them cost roughly a similar amount. Because of that, unless they made the Insecticons ridiculously simple, putting 3 together just wouldn't really make much sense when they could make sure that they have 3 characters to anchor their G1 followers over 3 periods in a 2-3 year span.

 

I probably don't have another 5 years left in me for collecting TFs...my interest has already waned quite a bit in the last 5 years. I think I'll probably call it a day after I finish the season 1 cast. I have most of season 2, but I don't know if I want to trouble myself to finish them. Brawn, Cliffjumper, and Trailbreaker are left for me. A decent CJ will be fairly soon, TB already has options, but I'm trying to hold out for TT...and then there's just Brawn. I don't like Brawny, but I may get tired of waiting for better. And I'll probably grab Hoist, Blitzwing, and Astrotrain while I'm still waiting.
