I know these would be nowhere near any kinda of MP release but as we all love a good natter about scale here where would you guys think Topspin and Twintwist would be on the Masterpiece Holy Scale Chart? Minibot, car, seeker.....bigger?

Ah yes, Topspin & Twintwist, the forgotton shelfwarmers of G1! Saw them many times: never picked them up :lol

They only ever appeared in the UK comic IIRC? So I guess their size would have to estimated purely from what we saw of them there. I got the impression they were no more than carbot height, maybe a head shorter.

But I suspect we'll be waiting a very long time for TT to get round to them :lol

My guess would be at least carbot height and maybe bigger depending on where they consistently stood in comparison to Springer (I'm only familiar with their IDW appearances, and can't recall their apparent height off the top of my head).

I looked it up and Victory's 30th anniversary is 2019.
If we don't get Victory Leo before then, I'm betting that's when we'll get him.
    So late.

I honestly don't have the energy to beat the dead horse and explain the design cues I see from each designer, when they switch roles as the lead. In a nutshell its mostly proportions, the golden ratio being factored in the design process. To pretend like two lead designers who have the majority of mindshare on a project, don't have an artistic fingerprint and unique style is beyond ignorant. Its almost as ignorant as proposing 2 different people singing the same song sound the same.

Everyones vision is subjective... We all see differently and rarely eye to eye.

Its not that deep anyway. I was just sharing that I love looking at them and wondering which of the designers did what because I have designed many things myself in teams and individually. Everyone approaches it differently and thats whats exciting and what should be celebrated, not ignored :)

    Haha likewise! BRING THEM ON!

MP-Cliffjumper would be great for three primary reasons:

    1). We'd get an MP-Cliffjumper (obviously)

2). TT was able to make a licensing deal with Porsche. So that means the likelihood of Jazz just shot up immensely.

3). It would also imply that TT wasn't giving up in MP versions of minibots, that MP-Bumblebee wasn't an anomaly simply b/c he's the most popular minibot.

Love that idea! I'd love an MP Shockwave but I have to admit I was scratching my head a bit on how to display him. My collection homages the cartoon and, of course, he never left Cybertron.

Bruticus, I enjoy reading your posts, but this one really bums me out, man. I was genuinely looking forward to some insight from you but this not only feels like a non-answer (boiling down to "I like what I like" and "I don't feel like - or can't - articulate an important point I was trying to make"), but you also insult someone who can't see these stylistic "fingerprints" you seem to claim are obvious yet you won't elaborate on, as ignorant.

You're not the only one here with credentials, dude. Plenty of us here make our bread and butter in the design, engineering, and art fields, including me.

You're free to prefer the figures Hasui designed over others, but to call a fellow fan who asks you an honest question - what the stylistic threads are in Yuki's Megatron and Star Saber, in Kobayashi's Grimlock, Rodimus, and Ultra Magnus, and Hasui's Optimus, Ravage, and Wheeljack - "ignorant", is really disappointing.

I would be all over a Cliffjumper. He is VERY high on my want list. Possibly in the top 3.

As someone who owns a nearly complete Cliffjumper collection, I am so supporting this. Cliff is my white whale for my MP collection.

My source says both. A new version of QW and an official Shockwave.

Topspin and Twintwist should be between car of and minibot, IMO.

on his own, in solitude? :lol  shockwave was always on his own, but still a S1 character.

don't sweat it, after reading his post myself 5 times, I've just decided to ignore it and all other posts he attempts to bullhorn... unless he's talking about something stylistically simple like primes headlights or whatever and claiming it is specific to a certain designer and can see congruent examples between each of the other MP's to support his theory, he's blowing smoke.

nothing against EB, but when it sounds, smells and looks like... well, you get the inference. :D

Yeah have to agree. If there are such obvious cues it would be nice to hear his thoughts on what they are!

Apparently it's use of the golden ratio? An interesting thought - and I certainly haven't looked at the designs from the point of view of considering architectural/mathematical concepts such as that. Not sure I'm seeing that though - I think if I looked hard enough i could find the golden ratio somewhere on all of them!

Y'know, if we saw another Megatron, I'd probably be more excited to see a G2 version as well, to be honest. :D

I'll be honest, I have no design or engineering background or specialist knowledge whatsoever, so for me, it's a treat to come to the boards and read the insight and opinions of people who do concerning the MP line. Yes, I may be ignorant, but that's why I rely on the knowledge of others who excel in this field, as although I find it interesting I wouldn't necessarily spot this stuff for myself. I certainly don't think I would be able to tell that one figure was designed by a specific designer.

TheOne, Liampope, and Sixo - you're all obviously beyond ignorant!!! :D

Seriously, though, I can't recommend the MP Guidebook enough for any MP fan who appreciates process and a look behind the scenes. Anytime I see a fellow fan throw around terms like "lazy" or "uninspired" with regard to these figures and designers, a quick flip through that book will show that's clearly not the case.

I'm sorry DeanML its been a long week my man. Been gearing up to move country and only get to check these boards late at night, so I felt abit exhausted.

Hasui puts a lifelike detail.. (well as lifelike as a lifeless cartoon robot can be) into his figures. Their proportions are always anatomically correct and are designed using an approximation of the headsize multiplied by X to achieve the figures height. This is the way Anime is drawn and gives his figures a much more aesthetically pleasing look as if they stepped out of the toon. The plans he provides the sculptors for his headsculpts are clearly more meticulous.
Hasui's figures really limit the amount of kibble visible and baring ultra magnus have had a much more intuitive playful transformation that brings back that joy of being a kid and ignoring the instuctions.

Koyabashi's figures are more bland in comparison to Hasui's. I see it as Duplo vs Lego. His figures headsculpts all take serious artistic liberties with the exception of Starscream & Grimlock. Who remembers the original headsculpt for Ultra Magnus? Track's head has west african tribal scars on his cheeks..When was that ever a part of his character? Koyabashi's figures also have very poorly thought out leg designs, Magnus's void shin guards, Rodimus's bootcut jeans x daisy dukes. Starscreams horrible oversized knees, Ironhides legs may be the worst yet :(  They look like a Honda Asimo prototype from the 1980's. Koyabashi just doesn't really give a fuck when it comes to making elegant leg solutions. Grimlocks legs on the contrary were pretty ingenious for the time and tracks I will reserve judgement on till I see closer. Koyabashi figures so far have been extremely kibbly within the abdomens and backpacks, that being said his figures always have incredible alt modes, possibly better than Hasui's... I feel he slightly compromises the robot to get a great looking alt mode. The robot modes seem to be made of large planar flat surfaces with curves added as afterthoughts.
Koyabashi's figures havent managed to scale well as of yet, however we haven't recieved much as of yet from him since the MP10 reboot so I will let that one slide it also seems he likes to use different fist design eachtime.

I like both designers but Hasui is my personal favourite having designed MP 10 and 13. I would like to see his take on Hot Rod, Megatron, Sunstreaker.

I would also love to see Yuki take another shot at Megatron or even give as a Galvatron as well thought out as Star Saber was.

I would have liked to have posted better liampope styled diagrammatic photos but time is abit of a virtue at the moment. I also didn't mean to come across as condescending to anyone on this board as if I'm more qualified to make judgements, however Malware's post's implied iGrimlock is the only one here who has the "wisdom" or whatever to discern designs.

I'm almost on my 500th post, I'm going to try save that for when MP Shockwave? is revealed ;) :)

Lets all get along and enjoy these things that bring us to this board checking for the newest and greatest every other day.

P.S I have a Takara mp11 first edition for sale, immaculate box etc, however starscreams nosecone is broken and misplaced for the moment. If anyone wants to purchase it DM me.

    Till next time x
