I think she looks like the Wendy's girl.
I took the one knee pad as kind of a thing since he’s a heavy gunner when getting in a kneeling pose, that’s the one he rests on. There’s some Gundam robot grunts that are snipers or gunners that have one knee with extra bits to support it kneeling.
There does seem to be a lot of real world thought put into these as mentioned above. The detailing on Snake Eyes is insane. Destro is about close to bringing that design up to date as it gets. Duke isn’t too far off his ARAH design. Roadblock is a more muted colour version of his V2 design. Scarlett isn’t far off some statue designs. The shoulder pad has been a thing since the America’s Elite if I’m not mistaken. It’s the gold colouring on some of these I think is what throws it off. And if what Lenny the designer said at the NYTF showroom, the colours that were shown were not final and might be changed by release.
Yeah, I’m not big on Scarlett’s headsculpt either. I only ordered it because I got sucked in with the Destro announcement. Ideally, I would hold out on too many more of these until I get ARAH looks. But they probably know it will be nearly impossible for me to resist any Ninja type characters or troopers.
I liked this mostly for the Zaku I sniper image. Love me some Zakus.
I mean if I was a sniper I'd probably just wear 2 kneepads but I get what you guys are saying.
Honestly it doesn't really bother me.
The backstory can be that the Joe military budget got cut and they all could only get one knee and elbow pad.
Thank you, guys, for sharing real world information to clarify/explain design choices! Now we know and knowing is half the battle!
I feel much better about the designs of Roadblock and Duke now. So I basically have zero regrets about pre-ordering wave one.
Sculpt wise, I’m 90% on board with rb/scarlet/duke - remove duke’s shin pads, give scarlet double elbows and make rb’s jacket easy removable (to access the excellent looking torso artic -give him a v1 vest under there while you’re at it ) and I’m good (with the addition of some 3p non sci fi guns).
Color wise I’d love to see some more changes tho - I don’t think the gold quite works, and am not a fan of the electric blue highlights. Rb’s vest seems pale and unsaturated and I’d like the red dropped from scarlet (the boots /shoe section in particular seems too busy). I’m pretty good with duke, though a less strong black on the top of his shirt would be great.
Although I do hope for more arah looks at some point, it wouldn’t take much for me to pick these guys up (well, I’ve already got duke on preorder).
My Covid Joe story for the day. I told my son he should watch Rise of Cobra, assuming he would enjoy the spectacle of it since he’s 8. Keep in mind, he doesn’t know much about Joe. He knows Snake Eyes and Duke, but asked me “is that guy who leads Cobra in it? What’s his name?”
he also had no idea who Baroness, Destro or Storm Shadow were as characters.
so, he starts watching it, and as soon as Snake Eyes is seen he is outraged. “What is that? He looks stupid! Why does he have a mouth.”
I didn’t coach him on anything.
then he asks “who is playing Duke!”
“Just an actor.”
“he’s dumb. That’s not Duke.”
again, I didn’t say anything to him about the movie at all other than he might like it.
he didn’t want to watch anymore and turned it off.
And that’s why the movie failed — even an 8 year old recognized the flaws almost fifteen years after it release with next to zero knowledge of the characters to begin with. It wasn’t that the ideas were bad because they weren’t exact renditions of RAH, it was that they were explicitly obvious bad decisions that Hasbro should have known and fought against rather than just go along with because they were excited to just get a Joe movie made.
82' Joes (OG 13 + Shooter)
84' Joes (Whale has always been my favorite)
87' Joes (Rawhides in the house)
I actually kind of liked the sequel. I didn’t think it was a masterpiece or anything, but I thought it was pretty entertaining and managed to fix at least a few of the things that I felt like the first film butchered. To this day though, I still don’t care much for the first film at all. To me, it lacked almost any feature that would make it recognizable as a G.I. Joe movie.
Awesome display! I like that you’ve got Slaughter’s Renegades represented in the ‘87 display. That’s really cool that they finally made a Big Lob figure too!
The first movie was worthless. The second one was only worth the few ninja scenes. Rest of it all can be flushed down a toilet.
To be fair Cobra Commander looked great.
Yep. That was one of the big problems, IMO, from the first movie, that the second movie fixed. I didn’t even care that Jospeh Gordon Levitt didn’t return to play him in the second movie. When I saw first him in the second movie, I immediately accepted him as Cobra Commander. I never accept the JGL version from the first movie as Cobra Commander.
89' Joes (Stalk and Snakes, my 2 favorites)
My biggest issues with the Joe movies were the ranks, idk I think I've read to many file cards and Duke being an "Officer" just did not sit well with me when he's an NCO, the NCOIC of the Joe team so that was what turned me off. I kinda had the issue with Roadblock in the 2nd movie but I was already over it as an oversite to what made GI Joe cool in my book, rank didnt matter per say
Yeah, in general, the first movie just took a big shit on a lot of the G.I. Joe mythology. I would say, they did pretty well by the ninjas (except for that silly mouth on Snake Eyes’s mask), and they got pretty close with Destro’s origin. But with everyone else, they seemed to just throw most of it out the window. They pretty much obliterated the origins for Baroness and Cobra Commander. It’s been a long time since I saw the first movie, so I didn’t remember that they made Duke an officer rather than a First Sergeant, but it also doesn’t surprise me because they didn’t seem to focus on any military aspect of the license at all. I remember all the characters seemed to have these all black, body armor type of suits that looked more like something Batman would wear than a military uniform. I know there has always been an element of science fiction to G.I. Joe, but the first movie seemed to lean into that aspect of it way more than what I would have preferred.
Is this new Snake Eyes Origins movie a reboot or a prequel/sequel?
It's a reboot prequel. Trailer was supposed to premiere 2 weeks ago so the toy reveal probably isn't too far behind.
I think I saw someone on here post a photo of Snake Eyes on a 1/12 scale motorcycle so it made me want to buy one for mine as well. It’s a Kawasaki Ninja H2 R. I think it looks great BUT I found another motorcycle who’s colors fit Snake Eyes more. I attached photos of it as well it’s a Benelli TNT 1130 Century Racer. I haven’t bought that one yet. What does everyone think?
Better color match for Snake Eyes with the motorcycle below?
The bottom one is a better color match, just 1 Arashikage logo away from being his
