I get what you mean and I was shocked when Snake Eye’s identity was revealed! X)

That aside, I always felt that Storm Shadow was the “better” ninja in terms of skill. Of course, this is the impression I got from the Marvel and DD’s comics.

Snake Eye not being native (to the art of ninjutsu) had to work harder to get to where he was.

To my friends and I, he managed to not only “overcome” the cultural barriers but also his physical handicap to become the man he is.

Yes of course as I have some relatives who are Americans ;)  and do return to Asia to visit us.

I get what you mean...but at this point, the designs of the 6-inch Joes resemble that of their ARAH counterparts. I just want to see the entire wave before I PO the entire wave.

It's a good thing so many people decided to pass on Scarlett and Duke. The Pulse preorders are sold out.

Sure, some resemblance is there. These would look great displayed next to MCU Marvel Legends figures, as modern, armored Joes.

For me though, I need something that will makes sense displayed below my ThunderCats Classics and MOTU Ultimates. Meaning, they need to fit in that ‘80s style.

My personal favorite Joe vehicles, growing up were the Night Raven and the Tomahawk. Pretty much all the figures and vehicles from the 1986 wave were some of my favorites, but those were my top two. I still had my Night Raven from back in ‘86, and a few years back, I ran across a Tomahawk at a flea market that still had the box. Was ecstatic to get it back!

One thing GI Joe did well was the vehicles. They're all pretty awesome.

Yeah those are easily two of the best. I never had the Tomahawk but it’s fantastic. I did have a Night Raven one of the most insane releases ever. Absolutely amazing with a super cool pilot and cockpit.

Yeah, the Strato Viper is cool, and I like the little second jet that detaches from the back of the Night Raven!

this is what it comes down to for me too. My collection is 80’s centric...toon or toy versions of Transformers, MOTU, Voltron, Thundercats, Marvel/DC...my interest in GI Joe is pretty limited to ARAH. I’ve got a handful of the anniversary figures, but would gladly replace them with 1/12 versions.

Definitely agree. And one thing I liked too was that with many of the medium sized to large sized vehicles they included a pilot figure. As a kid, saving up allowance to buy the vehicles, I always felt like I got my money’s worth from the G.I. Joe vehicles because you not only got a vehicle but you could also add to the ranks of your G.I. Joe and Cobra armies.

True, I forgot some toy lines didn't do that. I think that's why I didn't collect too many vehicles as a kid; they didn't come with any cool figures. I did get some later GI Joe vehicles and those were awesome. Well if they do vehicles for the 6in Joes, please make them able to come apart for storage. I put the wings on the Black Series Tie Fighter and those suckers might as well be glued in there. Makes transportation and storage a huge pain.

2 of the later Cobra ARAH jets that were awesome to me but ended up overlooked are the Hurricane VTOL and Condor Z-95. The latter is especially creative. Love to see those rereleased.

Indeed. I gave up waiting for rereleases and just went out and got the vintage versions of those two. If they were rereleased I'd still buy one more of each for my kids though.

A rerelease would be great, I know Hasbro would more than likely retool the Hurricane to make it sturdier. The way the re-engineered the Skystriker makes it survivable for generations to come, it's built a lot tougher than the original ever was.

The Condor has fun gimmicks. The bomb dropping mechanism from the wings was ahead of its time.

I think that altering Snake Eyes in the movie will hurt it.

The thing Joe collectors (not many of us) in my country are stuck...we really wished that the aesthetics of the 6-inch line followed ARAH but if we don’t support the line, the import stores won’t bring in future waves...catch 22 situation for us...

@AutobotStrider : I really can’t tell but if the movie studio wants to earn “Asian” $, an Asian actor could be a key factor...but our side of the world isn’t doing well because of the virus situation.

I get that reasoning but when Larry Hama weighs in and disagrees with it, I can't see the core G.I.Joe fan base supporting it. Casuals might but I think this movie could do badly because it hasn't respected the source material or creator.

Hama stated before why Snake Eyes is white and it's very in character, altering his appearance so heavily creates an issue imo. The movie might get around it by giving him a white father as I believe Golding is mixed race but the key appeal to Snake Eyes is he's a foreigner forced to live and abide by a different culture and ends up mastering it to the displeasure of Storm Shadow. Maybe they want to dial down the racial tension between the two?

I see, yeah you should definitely support this line then.

And full disclosure, I did pre-order Duke, Scarlett, and Roadblock from BBTS, because I would rather have a PO secured that I can cancel later, than to miss out and wish I had ordered. But I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep the order, or what I'll even do with these when I get them.

Yeah, that's the same with me. Most of my collection is dedicated to '80s versions of various favorite characters from my childhood.

    For reference:

    IMG_0876.JPG

    IMG_0877.JPG

I planned on having the 6in Joes displayed in that little temp spot right in the middle, that currently has the small Mr. T collection (Articulated Icons Solitaire w/Snake Eyes head, and original Flint and Shipwreck were added there recently in anticipation for the 6in line).

As you can see, that spot is right between my Prime Shrine (that while not all G1, is all pretty much G1-inspired designs), my Gremlins collection to the right, and below the MOTU & ThunderCats shadowboxes. All painfully '80s.

Yes, I could still put the 6in Classified figures in that spot, but it's going to feel weird to me. (Though, they would probably still look cool pictured with MAS-01 Prime, since that is also a a bit of a modernized version of the G1 design).

Pulse always sells out of main characters quickly. Their inventory is only about three times as deep as mine was.

This assumes that because Asians look similar that we're automatically and readily accepted by other Asians, and this just isn't the case. Racial appearance is only part of the equation but language, mindset, background, and cultural mannerisms play a big part of it too. I'm Chinese American and was born and raised in New York (and my grasp of the Chinese language is terribly rudimentary), but native people in Hong Kong or China would peg me right away as a foreigner to them. Similarly, I would have a hard time fitting into their societies, at least not without growing pains and serious dedication on my part to learn the local customs and language in order to assimilate better.

I get that Snake Eyes having been depicted as white, blond, and blue eyed is very easy visual short hand for gaijin foreigner since comics, video games, televisions shows, and movies are first and foremost a visual medium. But times have changed, and G.I. Joe should be flexible and adapt if it wants to continue on as a brand, so I'm not going to completely write off the Henry Golding SE movie without seeing it first. I'd imagine that they won't keep Snake Eyes as a former Vietnam War vet either, if they're not going to make the SE movie into a period piece set in the 70's or 80's after the war ended, as another example.

The cool thing about Snake Eyes having never removed his mask or speaking is that kids could imagine him to be and look like whatever they wanted, even themselves.

Why not? I would love a 6" representation of the G.I Joe character Jinx. :D
