All the original vehicles were pretty great and I mentioned recently the Killer WHALE is my favorite but I will also say the Mobat or the Cobra Variant (Black/Red) is one of the most solid and great values mostly due to its heft from the motor and working treads. Had so much fun with those things as a kid. I gotta dig out my Joe collection someday.
I didn't have Dial-Tone, but there's no way he deserves to be on this list. Besides, any dude with a military beret, is instantly cooler than anyone without. See Flint and v1 Stalker (exception: Lt. Falcon).
Falcon was one of the coolest figures ever made! And besides, he was only a douche in the movie (and it's not like that's the film's biggest problem, either!). He was pretty awesome in the comics.
Okay, I concede -- I was mainly going off the movie version and the figure was pretty cool. I just felt that if I didn't add that exception, someone else would have.
Ay so, while I'm waiting for my MTF figure to arrive (damn you slow processing) I figured I might as well get something done. I've got this recent Imperial Troop Transport from Rebels, and kinda wanted to paint it up like a HISS tank I was thinking red since I simply have a lot of that color (I'd be using Tamiya spray cans) but I'm not too sure. Any thoughts? This toy is a bit more detailed than the old HISS tank but I figured the basic and geometric shape would lend itself well Edit: went with red paint, I've got most of the main hull done but it's raining, so I can't finish today.
The Silent Skystriker/HISS is a great price especially given just how damn big the Skystriker and HISS are compared to Star Wars vehicles at comparable prices. You might feel like Star Wars is marked the hell up by comparison. What stuck out about the RHINO is how much fun it is to play with in-hand. The helipad actually rises up slowly so it's pretty cool to see it activated. The wings are spring loaded so they unfold as the copter emerges from it's bay. There's opening compartments where you can shove figures and even a ninja motorcycle. Also the weapons are modular. The Fury is awesome, sleek and deadly.
It does, but on the other hand, everything Star Wars is marked the hell up. Update on the HISSperial Transport: yeah I'll stop Image was awful and had to be edited, and is still awful. I still need to paint the upper section but the hull is MOSTLY done for me. When the weather isn't complete hell I'll try to take a picture outside (which will be a lot clearer than with my incandescent lamps)
The RHINO was awesome. Loved the ROCC too. Really wish they would've refitted the Dragon hawk for 1/18 and released the Iron mech with its magnetic part to attach to the Dragon hawk. Got the 2.5 Iron much just to put the magnetic part in the 1/18 version. Then again I'm a big fan of Sigma 6 and to get S6 vehicles in this scale was win/win for me.
Good to hear it looks like it'd fit in. I don't know too much about the lore but the most important thing to me was making it look like it could be a part of the Cobra arsenal.
The Iron Grenadiers were Destro's personal army. To me, they were always the cooler, meaner, tougher soldiers, especially the way they were portrayed recently in toys with their heavy armors and weaponry. Their primary color schemes for a number of key characters and vehicles were black, red and gold, as you can see in the ad below.
So, was Destro Cobra-aligned? I just bought a set of black Cobra insignias from ToyHax, so I want to make sure it'd still fit.
He is Cobra's weapons supplier/designer, and Cobra Commander's next in command in a lot of Joe fiction.
Destro and Baroness are close allies, and in a lot of the fiction they both actively work together to further their own schemes which sometimes run counter against Cobra Commander's plots behind his back. A real den of snakes, that Cobra organization. Chris Latta's Cobra Commander and Starscream share a lot in common in that there was definitely a lot of dissent within their respective ranks.
That animation was awesome. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever see such a thing on the airwaves ever again. I really liked the "nobody beats GI Joe" theme used during the '88/'89 commercials. It was also used during the version 2 commercial for the Sea Ray/Cobra Wolf commercial in late '87.
Check out this EagleHawk (Tomahawk) custom. HissTank.com - G.I. Joe - View Single Post - Hasbro, please bring the Eaglehawk back!
As much as I like spray cans, they're not perfect. Still have some work to do on that Imp transport that I don't think would be as necessary with an airbrush.
