I'm sure General Hawk and Tunnel Rat will be equally cool to Snow Job when they get revealed. As will Ripper and Grunt and a whole other bunch of name-only figures. I'm not even a huge Steel Brigade fan, but still like what I'm seeing here with the new 2-pack. They are "updated" versions of ARAH figures while all the other figures shown off today are very ARAH old school designs. Hasbro should follow up with Helix or Shadow Tracker just to make sure the younger fans don't feel too left out.
The VV Steel Brigade looks nothing like Steel Brigade and has no connection to Steel Brigade other than co-opting the name. Anyone saying that they prefer the VV design to this is as relevant as saying they prefer a McFarlane Batman to this Steel Brigade. Sure, the Batman toy may look cooler than Steel Brigade but it doesn’t satisfy the need for a Steel Brigade figure so it’s irrelevant.
The "super-skin-tight black suit" on the Televiper looks a bit odd, since it clearly is "bare skin molded in black plastic" while wearing a collared shirt over it. Obviously done so to make different ethnicities work easily, but I would like some "texture" or something so it looks more like an actual base layer, and not just "the bare arms and neck molds, reused directly".
I think the inevitable Python Patrol Televiper will have the bare skin exposed and only come with 1 head. That's my prediction, anyway.
I’m sure that video will be as entertaining as Angry Retro toy nerd in mom jeans with whip trying to be Indiana Jones.
The sleeve threw me off…couldn’t figure it out at first. I really appreciate the efforts to army build and give some variety in my trooper ethnicities. I don’t know that a neoprene sleeve under the rolled up sleeves makes much sense. I don’t have a better suggestion though. The rolled up sleeves are an important element of the televiper look, much like the Viper. Maybe a long sleeve shirt like classified Viper, and then bulk up with some type of overlay at the shoulder if you wanted to get closer to the shape of the original. Or have the lower arms modernized with multimedia implements, so not quite BAT like, but maybe like Major Bludd. But that might be a step too far for those looking for a traditional design. Minor quibble either way, these look awesome and the reveals today were stellar.
Hoping for a Classified deluxe Cobra Commander with the in your face red battle mask and glider drone not made out of cardboard or cheap looking material this time. Also: 1990 Duke Desert Scorpion Cobra Eel Undertow Battle Corps Alley Viper V2 TARGAT Metal Head Slice Night Creeper Deluxe Bio Viper from Mega Marines Snake Eyes from Dreamwave’s Transformers VS GI Joe 2003 Storm Shadow designed by Mike Zeck for the DDP comics 2002 Storm Shadow designed by Draxhall Jump Major Bludd based on the Sonic Fighters version with a jet pack that has removable panels and/or weaponry instead of sound components
Onboard with officially calling this Cyborg Eskimo look. I like having the fully covered look for troop building, and its a bit more Pilot helmet looking as well. Between Scrap Irons drone and a couple Trouble Bubbles I can already see the small Cobra army set ups once the Hiss arrives.
I will need 2-4 of those trouble bubbles, but I’ll probably drop a standard trooper in them - I’m just not a fan of the purple.
So I decided not to buy any Python Patrol or Tiger Force. And just like that Hasbro said "hey all that money you thought you were saving? Yoink."
