Head Mounted Displays. Before now, they've been way too expensive and really crappy. I am absolutely STOKED about this one: http://www.headplay.com/ It's like .hack! Only it's real!!! If anyone's heard good things about this one, lemee know. I want one.
I don't know... was browsing their website and it seemed more flashy animation than actual product information.
The discussion board said it is NOT compatible with the xbox 360. I'm left wondering what consoles it would be compatible with.
From what I've heard, they're going to release an extra 3D card that enables support . Don't know when, though.
I would like my eyes not to hurt after 10 minutes. Even that cardboard box from Metal Gear Acid 2 is a eye killer.
Interesting to see this being developed, but I am not going to rush out and buy one. Metroid would look sweet on such a device, but you would still have to aim at the sensor bar -which you could no longer see.
It doesn't look like this has stereoscopic (3-D) capabilities or any kind of head-tracking. It's just a monitor that you strap to your face.
Oops! Missed a line. That one line is sorta vague about what it does. Checking some of the major stereoscopy boards, it appears that it does indeed do real 3-D. They need to have a more comprehensive list of features. Stereoscopy should be a much more prominent feature on the list as well. In any case, the hardware you want to get 3D out of would need to support it, and that doesn't include most game consoles. The best use for gaming would be on an PC with an nVidia card and stereo drivers.
I don't see what makes this one any better than the other failures that came before it, and at $500, I don't see this as being anything less than expensive. The only way I could see something like this taking off is if consoles had this tech built in, and/or the visor was sold along with/alongside the console as an official product. Ever since the Virtual Boy, I've been waiting for some good 3D. I can't understand why nobody has implemented it yet.
I don't know. I bought an LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) TV as my first HDTV and took it back to the store. Still images were beautiful, but the image broke up horribly when there was a lot of movement and produced a ton of artifacts. The white balance was incredibly bad, too. If there was a white car on the screen it looked like a "Heavenmobile" because it was brillaint white and had an aura around it.
the only thing this would be mildly amusing with would be the Wii, because of its movement controller. And even then, most games you would have to face one direction to play because of the sensor bar. but yeah, games like Metroid Prime 3, or the racing games on the Wii would be really fun
Very interesting. I hope this won't be anything like a Virtual Boy 2.0 or the sort which hurts your eyes.
3D only works for those with depth perception. I have limited depth perception, so as cool as those goggles are they would be useless for me.
