I recently watched a video covering the development of Street Fighter 3, and it mentioned that at the time there was a possibility of a Darkstalkers game using CPS3.
Holy crap, I would have been all over that.

Just think, those graphics could have also been recycled for Capcom vs SNK and Capcom Fighting Evolution instead of 10-year-old sprites.

    I miss Darkstalkers.

That would have been killer. I guess the closest we got was the Demitri sprite from "SNK VS Capcom: SVC Chaos".

It's not even entirely age, it's also that Morrigan ended up looking worse then most other characters over time for whatever reason.

COTA came out the same year as the first Vampire game and Psylocke is one of the best animated characters they did outside of CPS-3 games.

I remember the issues with Morrigan's sprite was very noticeable by the time we got to the Capcom VS SNK series, especially compared to the newly created Capcom reinventions of the SNK characters. (Also, Capcom and SNK, if you all want to hammer out a deal to create a new VS game, I would preorder that, no questions asked).

Sign me up for that, if we can't have Mahvel anymore then give us CVS.

If we can't have either, then do something like Fighting Jam again but good.

Come to think of it, Capcom would have easily brought in the engine for their VS Marvel games for a series with all their own characters a long time ago, unless Marvel somehow has the rights to that too somehow (seems unlikely, but I never know for sure). Capcom certainly had enough characters of their own to make a roster the size of Marvel VS Capcom 2 by the early 2000's.

I'd have no problem buying MVC gameplay without Marvel, just have some new characters to take over move sets for the Marvel characters that have been tournament staples.

Mags, Storm and Doom might need a bit of thinking to replicate without getting sued but literally anyone can come up with big gun dude, giant robot, big tiddy super ninja and so on.

Shit, Forgotten Soldiers and a giant Servbot would cover two of those strait away.

Yep! Short story, they totally did that, got in some trouble because it was too blatant, and produced revised carts that edited those bosses to less resemble their homages.

Yup, the original release of Revenge of Shinobi was full of “homages” (rip-offs) including Batman, Rambo, Hulk, and the title screen ripped from a Sonny Chiba movie poster. Later revisions altered all of these elements so they couldn’t be sued.

Spider-Man is actually a bit more complicated then that. He was an almost identical knock-off in the original version that only came out in Japan, was changed into legit Spider-Man for the middle couple of versions because they had a licence at the time and was then changed to a generic pink guy for the last version they did for modern re-releases.

Seriously, one big change I want to see in KOF starting with this game is for them to go more out with the number of alternate outfits. I got spoiled with Street Fighter V when it came to that.
