    Hell yes, I’ve played Tekken for 25 years.

    At the time, 99% of the fighting games I had played was SF and Mortal Kombat. I rented the first Tekken on PS1 from Blockbuster….and I didn’t like it. I had a hard time wrapping my head around it too. Rented it again a while later and it clicked big time. To quote Yoda, “You must unlearn what you have learned.” Using SF strategy doesn’t work. I don’t know which Tekken game you’re trying, but each one has added something to the gameplay; parries, counters, 3D sidestepping, etc. I don’t want to sound like some kind of expert (I’m pretty good against the AI but human opponents could destroy me), but I can say that mid-level attacks are your friend and open up high and low attacks (they must be blocked high but can’t be ducked under; most characters can perform a basic mid attack by pressing diagonally down/forward and left kick).

    Also, other than the first entry, there are very few true combos in Tekken. Move strings are more meant to mix things up so you can trick your opponent into blocking wrong. Many move strings have built-in mixups.

    If you want frustrating 3D fighters, try the Virtua Fighter series…God I freaking HATE those games. The Soul Calibur series is really good though.

    OMG Tekken is finally getting some love now in this thread!? Lol jk,Yea I've played Tekken since it came out back in '94 iirc. Lots of Quarters went down the drain real fast @ the arcade lol. As mentioned previously above every new Tekken that comes out adds a new feature some good,some bad and @ the end of the day you have to adapt and get use to it or get DESTROYED lol. I still consider myself old school and prefer when Tekken 1,2,3 had no walls but over the years they added walls, leveled stages,Parries,Tracking moves,Tag,rage art/attacks and my downside to me about all fight games: FRAME DATA! I sorta understand it but to me takes the fun of any fighter. I truly miss those days @ the Arcade when you learn as you go. These day ppl know what move to do bc it counters the frame of such and such and see I'm even now confused lol. Also one thing that took me a second to get use to was air juggles which can get carried away especially if you're on Geese Howard's stage lol. Shits ridiculous.

    "Using SF strategy doesn't work." Yeah, this has been the hard part. Decades of SF muscle memory and feel has to go out the window for this game. Tekken 7 is my first Tekken ever so I'm starting from scratch. I tried learning a couple years ago but that didn't last long. It got way too frustrating and stressful but this time I'm actually having fun even though it's still crazy frustrating. Also online is so ass, I could rant about online play all day but whatever.

    Not only do you have to learn your character inside and out but you have to learn every other character, all their moves, strings, frames, etc. It's beyond overwhelming. Then you have the 3d movement which has been really difficult to adjust to. Everyone online just presses buttons nonstop but it works cause I have zero matchup knowledge lol. I don't know what's safe, what's not, what the strings are, if they're high/mid/low, etc so I just get hit with everything. It's so frustrating losing to players that I know are trash but my lack of knowledge lets them get away with everything.

    A buddy of mine has been playing for a couple years and he told me it takes about a year of Tekken to start getting comfortable lol. That's nuts but I totally can understand that now.

    Kept my word and paid for my pre-order last night as soon as it was possible on Steam. We'll see if Expectations are Shattered come February.

    My mouth dropped when I saw they had brought back K9999. I actually liked the design even if it was a Tetsuo copy.
