I love seeing old arcade house rule signs like that.

Mine back in the 90s had a unwritten "no throwing" rule. Looking back it was pretty dumb but I remember there were several fistfights that broke out and why most that went to the arcade adhered to it.

Once some of the larger tournaments started popping up in the area, most realized it was an important part of the games and adapted and got better, and those that didn't like it stopped going.

We didn't have many KOF games but I know house bannings for rugal in mexico were a standard.

Lol my local neighborhood (7-11/arcades) had that same exact rule of no throwing and I remember seeing teenagers actually getting into real fights inside/outside the establishment. I'll never forget seeing some dude getting thrown in MK2 and he says to the kid "Throw me 1 more time,I dare you!" and the kid did and *BAM!* a fist to the face and the kid left crying and the teenager bounced so I thought "Oh shit free play for me!" Then like 10mins later this Biker looking guy comes and pushes me and says "You want to punch someone,Punch me!" and I like "It wasn't me sir!!" (Scared AF lol) and the kid told his dad I wasn't the 1. So crazy looking back then to that unwritten rule of throwing and nowadays when you look @ Fighting games ppl be throwing non-stop especially in Tournaments.

As Rugal,That [email protected] boss destroyed everyone @ the Arcade when I was a kid. He ranks up there with PTSD boss fights alongside Kintaro and Akuma debut from SSF2T.

So having played around with the dlc of kof so far I am impressed with Rock and Gato, but I am finding my playing still falling more to preferring Gato than Rock, but Rock has some really good moves and I enjoy his buff from the alt neo rave.

The March update for Street Fighter V is now live. I think just about every character got some significant changes since a lot of it went to rebalancing. Here's a list for individual changes. Street Fighter 5 Definitive Update patch notes

Also, the Pro-Tour Pass became available, featuring a new stage filled with homages to other Capcom games.

I main Honda and his changes were minimal but I’m eager to test them out.

I’m also really digging the Capcom Arcade stage. I think I might splurge and get that.

Thank goodness that SF5 is almost dead. That's the best part about this update. I don't have high hopes for 6 but at least there's a tiny chance it might be good.

I think the goal with V was to make something in the same vein as the alpha series, but it's more like it's bastard mainstream child. I don't have much hope for 6 either, but at least it will be something hopefully fresh.

I really want to pickup KOFXV but the full price entry just doesn't do it for me right now. First sale it goes on with the dlc pack and I'm picking it up. I really like everything I'm seeing for this game right now.

I was also really hoping Slayer was going to be one of the last 2 dlc chars in the first pack for strive. Testament looks fun, same with baiken, but I just haven't had the interest in the game for awhile. I was hoping my old main was going to re-ignite the drive to play it, but without him I just don't have it in me.

The goal with 5 was to bring in the less skilled player(I'm trying to be nice lol) and to also sell out to e-sports. I think it's pretty much a given that 6 will be just as bad and have similar gameplay but maybe Capcom will actually get a clue. Personally, I hope they implement NOTHING from 5 and just pretend that game never existed but obviously that's not gonna happen. At least we'll have Tekken 8 eventually lol.

I like 5 a lot casually myself, though wish it didn't focus so much into E-Sports. I'm not sure how I'll enjoy 6, I got to see more outside that first teaser trailer.

I like SF5 more than SF4. From my own point of view SF4 feels more "fair" but is more boring and forces you into a very defensive and routinized style of game. SF5 is all about mixups, hard reads/guesses and committing to an action-- commit to the wrong choice and you run the risk of getting blown up in SF5. I think that's one of the reasons folks dislike the game so much-- its a dangerous game. SF4 had a ton of option selects and extra options that provided you with a safety net in case you committed poorly. SF5 removed them. You're naked in SF5 and you'll either look good in your birthday suit or not!

For example, SF4 had invincible back dashes and your EX specials also gave you invincibility but were more likely to be safe if your opponent blocked them. SF5 removed invincible back dashes- they still help you avoid throws but if your opponent had opted to hit a long reach heavy attack, you're probably gonna get hit and get hurt. Same with invincible EX specials-- they'll counter an opponent who is putting a lot of pressure on you but if they decide to just stop and block, you're gonna get hurt. The game forces both players to commit to an action and immediately reap the rewards or penalties for their choice.

Regardless, every modern SF gets hated on before it becomes fondly remembered. It happened with 3, it happened with 4 and now it's happening with 5.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who’s been a casual (or “less skilled”…ha! ;) ) fighting game player for 30 years, and has spent 95% of that time only fighting against AI opponents…

I liked SFV, but not as much as SFIV. IV just felt more like a SF game, while V’s mechanics were harder for me to grasp. Too much emphasis on frame-perfect chain combos that I absolutely SUCK at. I’ll probably do the same thing with VI as I did with V: wait until I can get a bundle with a bunch of DLC at a reduced price, then on sale.

I might be more biased for SFV since I got one of my favorite characters, R. Mika, back from way back in Alpha 3, and it's the first SF game I started playing as a PC user, so been having fun with mods (mainly costumes and undoing some edits Capcom made to the game).

If anyone wants a sort of fresh 2D Street Fighter gameplay experience, some absolute madmen from Brazil are currently hacking arcade SFZ3 into basically a new game called SFZ3 Mix. Major changes so far -

    It's now a KOF-style 3v3 team game
Ism selection removed, custom combos available with a level 3 meter whilst under 25% health and X-ism CPS1 chains all round
    Garou-style Just Defend added
    Air blocking removed
Choose between unsafe air Recovery or safe fall to the ground
    Plus loads of smaller changes

I played it for an hour or so today even though I don't particularly like SFZ3 and ended up really enjoying it, definitely recommend checking it out although I can't link for obvious reasons.

Hey folks just wondering for anyone who's owns it or has played it but how's Dragon Ball Fighterz? I see the Ultimate Edition is only $9.99 and only comes with Season 1 pass/DLC and extra Music tracks.

I'm tempted but part of me is asking if I'm really gonna like it or am only buying it for the cheap price. I've never been deep into those fighters with air combos and always got destroyed back in the MvC days in the arcade.

I am a DBZ fan (Still prefer OG Broly over the new Broly with feelings lol) and currently working on Super but them damn commercial breaks on Hulu is killing it for me to continue on.

It's by the people who make the guilty gear series. It's a fun game and the controls are rather simplified (IE every super from what I remember is half circle forward and a button). And can do some tag combos ala marvel vs capcom.

It's a very fast paced game, and when I mention the controls I don't mean it as a knock, the dlc I bought was also pretty fun. If your a fan of the fighting game dragon balls this may be the first definitive one we've had in a long time.

It's still an EVO contender too, though online may not be what it was a year or two ago. It's funny MvC was brought up by @Edge since some fans considered this helped knock "Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite" down since they both releases around the same time.
