Playing through Revenge of Shinobi way back then in the OG Genesis days, this was a genuine memory for me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing/fighting against(Godzilla(that's a genuine Showa GvMothra Godzilla btw, which is one of the more beloved Showa G designs), Spiderman, Batman, Hulk, Terminator, Rambo) as I went through those later levels. I loved every single minute of it but even then I knew they probably were breaking all kinds of character licensing.   So it wasn't a surprise at all when I heard that they altered later versions.

If you're going to revisit the game, I do recommend finding that original version. The alterations don't feel as native as the character craziness they originally went with.

 

I remember trying to look for the original ROM years ago, but if I remember, it's trickier than people might expect.

 

It's all dumped and available in the complete sets, keep in mind that it was called The Super Shinobi in Japan if you want the first version with maximum infringement.

 

For all the fandom behind Rock it stuns me he's still regulated to DLC status, I mean I guess its to sell the DLC but it just seems odd at this point I feel like he'd make it into a standard roster.

All that aside, I hope the DLC is a little more interactive with the teams this time, the last game's DLC felt shoe horned in since people like Terry or Geese would not have a dialog scene with Rock among other charecters. Was just odd IMO

 

From what I heard, and take with a grain of salt, the KOF team has some silent agreement that they didn't want to do anything with Rock's stories until SNK gets to make another Garou game.

 

I feel like we're going to get a new franchise from SNK before that even happens

On a related note, SNK is asking kindly of players who are able to get KOF XV during it's early release on the 14th to not post or share spoilers from the story modes till at least the 17th when the general release happens.

Someone told me kof unlocked early today.

 

I think it unlocks tomorrow for those that ordered the deluxe digital version on PS5, and some were able to buy the physical version by luck last week. Those of us on PC have to wait till 17th no matter what.
