This thought just came to me, but I hit on a strange thought regarding Mikaela Bayne's father, and Tessa Yaeger's father: - Both are guys that are into mechanical things - Both seem to be irresponsible in some way: Mikaela's father had a record because he stole cars. Cade just shirks the real world, pretending that the bad stuff isn't happening. - Both Mikaela and Tessa seem to be the more responsible ones in a one-parent/one-child household. (the last time we saw Mikaela's father, Mikaela was telling Sam that she was still trying to keep him on the straight-and-narrow). Anyone else get that vibe?
Well, as far as we know, he is still living the singles life, so we can assume he's still gadding about like a young man. One has to wonder, if maybe he did get married and take responsibility, if his films might feel a little more 'emotional.' One can definitely see that the films of directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas changed when they became family men. Spielberg in one interview said that the way Richard Dreyfuss' character in 'Close Encounters' acted, was written in an era before he became a father. The Dreyfuss character in 'CEot3K' becomes so obsessed with the stars that he just ignores his family, drives them away, and then he just abandons them to chase a childhood dream.
