The end of legitimate G1 footage?

    The original movie is still available because someone (SONY) wanted to buy the license and produce it after Rhino's expired. They made a 20th anniversary version less than a year and a half ago, and you can still find that version pretty easily.

    As for why you can still find the rhino version, probably because they made a lot of them and there are still some that haven't sold. Even if the license has expired, if a store still has the product, they can sell it. I'm pretty sure the license is only to produce and distribute copies of the film, though I could be wrong. When did they stop making the rhino version? Probably around 2005-2006.
