During the highway chase scene in DOTM, right when the first Dread transforms from a Chevy to robot, I was expecting to see a bit more car parts on it.

I know that the chest area is where you can see a chevy logo, but as far as doors and other parts, it's probably really hidden or not much at all.

I'm going to go with the consensus that they were not given too many car parts on their robot form for sake of confusing Ironhide during the Mexican standoff, since he is also a black truck.

I'm not saying I don't like the designs, but c'mon, those SUV's were sick alt-modes.

Well, I think Crowbar's doors hang over the back over his shoulders. There's something there anyway.

But the Dreads aren't the worst case of said cheating in the film. There was a pick up truck seen during the Chicago scene with all the dead people, that transforms into a Decepticon with literally no identifiable car parts, no wheels, no nothing.

 

All 3 Dreads have their front lights around their chest and shoulders, according to the concept art. Hatchet's spikes on his back are made from the SUV's windows.

Basically, all car parts break down into spiky parts and panels that go all over their bodies.

Also, the SUV's back red lights are on Crankcase's knees.

 

I think the car parts just break up more than most of the other characters.

 

Maybe the pickup (Headbanger) pulls the Mirage trick?

 

They may not have that many identifiable, but they are spindly for their size. Also, I have Crankcase's toy; the kibble is small on this one. They just transform a bit much for his size.

 

But that happened too fast, and it was hard to see. Maybe he did have some car parts. But it was dark at night, and he was probably a black pick up truck.

Yeah!!....But I think I saw some wheels near Headbanger's knees though. 

 

This seems more plausible, kind of like reedman from ROTF.
I only hope to see an ILM model of this guy in the next release for Blu ray

You can see some of the black of the SUV on Crankcase's robot mode.

But who cares? The Dreads are AWESUM, they can kick the shit out of reality if they want so.

The whole of Hatchet's face seems to be made of his grill.

And the tires can be seen on their legs and/or arms, depending on the Dread.

EDIT: Oops, someone beat me to it. The pics are great reference.  

 

The concept art has more recognizeable vehicle parts then the actual movie models. I checked screenshots several times, and you can only really see a few things:

-Wheels
-Rear lights
-Hatchet's spine is made up from glass shards of the windows
-Crowbar has panels slide over the headlights on his chest when he rams Ironhide and transforms

And that's pretty much it. Not even their colors in robot mode match with their vehicle modes. Definitely some of the biggest cheats in the entire series.
