Ok so this is my first time in this forum, which is a shame really as Iv'e always enjoyed reading/ TF fiction and studied literature but I haven't really dipped into the foray of fan fiction before. My reason for posting is I feel like recently my imagination and creativity are hitting a ceiling while in my head and I really need to get the information down to flesh it out that bit more and bring the story I keep following to a conclusion. So without any further introduction here is the first section of my follow on story to the g1 toon continuity, I hope that you enjoy and i look forward to looking at other peoples fan fiction on these boards as well.

    The disappearance of Optimus Prime
    [IMG]

Rodimus's optics flickered as Magnus lectured him yet again over the same issue they'd been debating for over two orns now. "We have to think logically about this Rodimus. There's only so long we can keep the populace distracted with Decepticon propaganda and our attempts at staged appearances before they start demanding he shows his face." Rodimus had always considered his right hand man the voice of reason but at this moment in time all he could hear is prime prime prime and he'd rather have given him a right hand to the face. Springer sat awkwardly in the corner admiring the control panel, as a bot of action he had come to loathe his new political role, stuck up on Cybertron in Autobot command HQ. When he signed up for the job he didn't think he was going to be grand mediator for the Magnus vs Rodimus debates but that in a leadership role he might have the chance to lead his own squad and seek out what action was out there in the universe. Although he daren't admit it part of him actually missed the threat of the Decepticons, a chance to show off his skill and heroics. It didnt help that arcee had swanned off to nebulos with spike and daniel for the foreseeable with only the occasional visit to remind him he actually had a respective other.

"your going to have to face your responsibilities sooner or later Rodimus!" Magnus shouted in a manner uncharacteristic of himself. If there was anything Rodimus wanted least it was the burden of assuming command again. He had even been reluctant to take the name Rodimus but Optimus insisted during the celebrations that followed the new golden age of cybertron whilst also holding a reward for his war efforts, so he could hardly refuse. Something about him no longer being a "Hot rod" but a seasoned leader who will always and forever be known as a hero. Rodimus was reminded again that Magnus was still talking at him

"Your going to have to become Rodimus Prime again and offer the people a new leader to ease the growing unrest"

"Look guys" Springer managed to splutter out, sensing his friends distress and the growing resentment between the two. " Can we honestly say we've looked everywhere? Even after all this time there must be one lead left to follow."

"Well erm..." Magnus stopped in his tracks obviously privy to information he had saught to conceal.

"Oh thanks Magnus so you're ram-raiding me into taking over the Autobots rather than share what could be a vital clue."

"Fine....." magnus paused "If you must know there was a unauthorized space bridge to earth around half a stellar cycle ago but autobot city looked into it and nothing came up. Our best option is still for you to assume the mantle of leadership"

"We have to look into it!" Rodimus shouted obviously trying to change the subject and desperate for any escape from Magnus's never ending tirade.

"How about a deal" Springer could tell Magnus wasn't in for another run around like the three had been in for time and time again on Cybertron this past two Orns but couldn't wait to get his hands dirty himself. Finally he had found the perfect moment and he felt like he had done something useful as wannabe referee between the two. He knew if he could convince both of anything it was this, with both being sure the other was wrong and whatever the outcome the morale problem would finally come to an end.

    "shake on it."

    Through the darkness

As the light from the space bridge faded from Rodimus's sight leaving only the moon which hung in the sky as a small white disc, he looked out across the cityscape and took a breath. This had to be it this time, he wasn't going to be going back empty handed yet again and in reward have the pressure of leadership thrust upon him. The flats close by all seemed to be a similar height to the one he was stood on but he couldnt see any light from the windows of any buildinings nearby. He assumed it must be very late at night for the humans as the streetlights still lit the empty roads below. In attempt to hide himself from the Autobots on earth Rodimus had opted to add a cloak to his robot mode and a brim to his helmet, he had always admired earths gun-slinging heroes and thaught that coupled with his two pistols it added a sense of style despite hiding his identity and status. The plan was simple, each one of the three of them would cover a different section of the city, surrounding the space bridge co-ordinates in an attempt to discover any strange activity.

Magnus felt the sensation of his body materializing as he began to appear near the docks area of the city, his eyes quickly searching for a nearby carrier truck which he scanned and assumed as an alternate form, the trailer of which would make brilliant storage for heavy weaponry or a stretcher for a fellow comrade should the situation arise. Why was Rodimus so hesitant to accept his role as leader he wondered. He knew Rodimus made a good leader and that his worrying actually ensured he thoroughly planned and looked into every situation. But still that shadow of prime hung over him. Magnus thought to himself about his own time as leader and how he'd wound up getting shot to pieces due to the matrix not choosing him and found the whole thing deeply illogical and unfair. He cranked his beams to an acceptable level and began to drive along the quiet streets. Although it had taken him a while before he had methodologically searched his half of the city he knew he had searched thoroughly and found well ...nothing the whole place seemed deserted.

Springer looked out over the city having materialized in copter mode. He'd been the first to start searching, the only augmentation he'd made to himself being adopting a slightly different shade on his color pallette and adding a visor to his robot mode which along with hiding his face made him look like one of those Knights he'd seen on earth TV or the role he'd played in Danny's dream that time. He loved that title "Knight" it made him feel like a strong warrior with a just cause to fight for, a real hero. But just as his thoughts strayed to grandeur springer spotted rodimus speeding around the streets sloppily holding up his end of the mission and Magnus combing his side at around 1MPH. He knew that yet again he would have to be the one to say something so lowered his altitude and switched modes close to Rodimus's location asking him sarcastically to "slow down a little and enjoy the local attractions"

One brief moment and all their optics converged at once as a loud crack was hear and a incandecent bolt of energy reached high into the sky. The Autobots quickly sped as fast as they could in the direction of the disturbance all three converging and driving in convoy after one another until they rounded the last corner and could see a power-plant ahead. The autobots felt the energy drain from them as a strange gas filled the air. The last thing they saw in the distance a missile truck, arctic troop carrier and a tank driving into the distance.

    Old soldiers never die

The Techobots sat in the Autobot city lab mindlessly flicking through old R&D files that had fallen by the wayside during the great war and cataloging and filing them in Teletraan's data banks.

"I'm telling you they're out there in our know space" Strafe muttered out shaking with fear as usual

"Oh and who might you be referring to Strafe old friend?....The Decepticons by any chance?" remarked Nosecone dryly irritated that strafe had distracted him from focusing on some rather interesting findings he had found.

"Not this again" cried Afterburner annoyed that he not only had a laborious task to do but he had also been subject to strafes moaning for six vorns now.

"Technically he's right" Lightspeed knew he'd made a tenuous connection but if anything could drag his colleagues away from this grueling work he was going to seize it with both hands.

"Well a former Decepticon at least but the author of this paticular Journal I've found and a rather important figure in cybertronian science. Why with his help we could be through the rest of this research in half a vorn." Ok he had exaggerated but the point was still there.

"Get on with it know-it-all whose the guy?" Scattershot let out impatiently

    "Skyfire"

    They just fade away
"Of all the stupid ideas" mumbled Scattershot, well aware that Lightspeed wasn't going to let this one go "where do we even start it's not like we can just follow a distress signal. If that were the case he'd have been found in an astro-second"

"Ah!" The Technobots could all tell Scattershot had fallen into Lightspeeds trap and he'd probably been waiting the entire time they had been researching for the perfect moment to bring the topic up.

"Your referring to Powerglide's report I presume" Nosecone had already completed a search plan and likely whereabouts along with a mission inventory and all the other relevant paperwork as soon as Lightspeed had brought the topic up and was in the process of copying it from his cerebral core to Teletraans network. Rather than congratulating Lightspeed though he'd much rather embarrass him by how under prepared his plan and proposal were.

"I'm sure your familiar with it Nosecone" he could tell he was being mocked " It's likely that Powerglide's report of Jetfire being hit during the return of Optimus led to problems with flight for the big guy and due to the panic and spike in com chat with the return of Optimus his distress signal may have faded out before anyone else realised he'd gone"

"Are we talking about Jetfire" Afterburner interjected completeley lowering the tone in the room

Nosecone let out a sigh annoyed at how poorly the communication of information was going. "Yes afterburner Skyfire and Jetfire are in fact one and the same. The poor bot went through an identity crisis after surviving in the battle for Autobot city and having so many other bots take pity on him for all his fallen comrades that he took to changing his name and adopting the name Jetfire" Nosecone was annoyed he had to explain such simple information that he knew full well they were all instructed of in their Autobot science history classes Perceptor. "Anyway I've drawn up some mission plans have a review of them and let me know what you think"
