I know I'm gonna take some heat for this, but I have to ask it anyway - am I the only one who just doesn't like the Dinobots? I'm not talking about putting them in TF3, I mean, just the concept of them.

Don't get me wrong, when I was six, hell yeah - I loved me some Dinobots. Just like every other six year old who was obsessed with dinosaurs, and they all pretty much are, I felt that combining them with transforming robots was a win-win. But that is the perspective of a six year old.

Now, my adult mind just can't stand the thought of them. Nothing about them makes sense. They aren't robots in disguise, they're just big metal dinosaurs. And on top of that, they're stupid (in the G1 and animated Toons). Others in the fandom have pointed this out, I just wanted to have a discussion about it.

Depends, I always like the Dino's cause they were the Special Forces of the Autobots. THere was something about there team work and pure brutailty in war that I loved. Many versions of the Dinos out there, yea the Cartoon, but remember as we got older we read the Marvel Comics, G2 versions and now IDW puts the dino's in a completly different light all together. Even in the Animated movie they were the tuffest dudes in the bunch.
I'm a huge Dino fan, will it fit in TF3, I dont think so, but I hate those movies. SHit they messed up the basics like Megatron, Bee and Prime.

There are many giant robotic animals in Transformers.

And Transformers not being able to disguise themselves makes for some interesting stories that can't be told with other vehicluar transformers. No story with the Dinobots in ever pretended that they were robots in disguise.

Indeed, in most of them they don't even transform!

Forget "robots in disguise". Alt modes serve more purpose than hiding. In the Dinobots case it is for armor and firepower. As bots they are rather weak but as dinos they are near indestructable. For others it aids in faster transit.

Agree completely with this. Movie Megatron's alt mode certainly isn't for hiding (at least I certainly haven't seen a tank/plane like that anywhere). Same with Soundwave (though that comparison is admittedly somewhat unfair as Soundwave never leaves space). In either event, though, the movies recognize that alt modes can be used for more than just a disguise.

Yeah, the Dinobots were the Autobots ultimate weapon in their early days. They couldn't take the Dinobots with them on every mission because they would blow their cover but they were sent out when it was a matter of urgency.

In the U.K. comics, the Dinobots complained at being confined to the Ark because their alternate modes made them conspicuous. But funnily enough, in the Underbase Saga, the Japanese weren't scared of their dinosaur modes thinking they were props for a monster movie but were when they transformed.

Optimus too care of the desguise issue by locking them in that closet and never letting them out unless they were needed. That dick.

it depends when they get turned into mary sue levels of silly over powered characters i hate them. To me the Dino's are perfect for short story's or supporting roles but nothing past that.

But I do hate that wannabe g1 Dino combiner I've forgotten the name but I look at its pic on the wiki and i feel like its very existence makes them fall a few cool points.

As Axecop demonstrates, things that are cool when you're six are undeniably better than anything you can think of as an adult.

I don't think Hasbro cared much about the toys they releasing in 1985 what an adult in the year 2010 would think of them.

Kids love robots and kids love dinosaurs. That was enough of a reason to release them.

The Beast... yeah I'm kinda happy I forgot it...

PS cool custom (and this is coming from some one who's not a fan of a dinobot combiner of any type)

Also just going to say I actually really like the idea of the Dinobots if it seems like I'm just s**ting on them in this thread.
