I'm going to die this Friday, at 2:30 PM. My dentist is probably going to murder me. I am terrified of the dentist. ever since I was a little kid, I feared them, like nothing else. The only other thing that scares me this much is bears. I know I have a cavity, I have not gone in about 2 years now, because of the fear. My heart rate sky rockets, I get sweaty palms, I quiver in fear, my mouth goes dry. What the hell do you do when you have to go? I really get so scared I'm going to die. If anyone has words of encouragement or horror stories to share, go for it.
I have a friend who hates it to but he uses gas tofeel all giggly and that usually works. Myself well I dont mind, smaller holes I just fix up but it if would been a bigger one then I would take the needle and sadatet the tooth. I usually lay there thinking about other stuff like pron and such.
Statistically speaking, you've got a better chance dying on the drive over than during your visit. But you know that already--it's just anxiety talking now. So wake up early, have a nice breakfast, relax at home with a video game or movie, and then show up right on time to the dentists. And maybe call ahead and ask for him to allocate five or ten minutes to speak with you beforehand just to allay your fears. A good provider would be happy to do that for you.
I use to hate going to but ever since I went to my sister's dentist,I love going!,I get to see the dental assistant,Talk about hott!!,I gotta see if she's single...
dentist is a piece of cake......the dentists love me.....they make tons of cash on me lol. I have teeth that decay very easily, no mattter how often I brush and floss and mouth wash. Genetics from my mom sides of the family. 2007.....I spent close to 2Gs on dental work..........and i still have 3 cavities to get fixed. It sucks. But you just gotta keep your mind busy. My former dentist used to have a tv going on in the room so you could wathc tv while they were working on you.....or you could just have a cd player with pretty much whatever you wanted to listen to.....had a HUGE list of cds to pick from. I usually end up just about falling asleep. Minor pains relaxes me and puts me to sleep or somethintg freaky deaky
I was scared as hell to go back to the dentist, hadn't been for 11 years. Finally went back when a tooth was bothering me too much for me to ignore. Ended up having two really big cavities and three small ones. Went back for two sessions to get them filled. You know what? The anticipation of the whole thing was much worse than the reality.
I always used to put on my mp3 player when I was in the chair as it were... helped me relax a bit... I'm sure you'll be fine... once its done - thats it done!
Good advice everyone. I will definately call and ask to speak with the dentist for a good 5-10 minutes before the appointment. I will also bring my ipod to help me relax. The pain does not really bother me, it is the sounds and the tastes. That thing that sucks the saliva out of your mouth creeps my ass out too. I also have a severe gag reflex so I tend to vomit on the dentist a lot. I don't know what it is exactly, it just creeps me out, I always think I am going to die, or get fondled like in all of those videos you see on the news.
Meh, the dentist is only annoying, doesn't really freak me out. When I got told it was gonna take 2 hours to pull all 4 of my wisdom teeth in one shot, I told 'em they were gonna have to knock me out. Didn't wanna spend 2 hours watching the dentist pound on my face with a hammer. 7 fillings on the left side in 2 days, only problem there was that on both days the shot started to wear off but they couldn't stop mid procedure to shoot me up again, that sucked. Another 9 fillings on the right side I gotta do this year... Just go to the dentist, and get it taken care of, don't wait about it and be stuck having to get a bunch done at once, because it gets expensive.
I'm sure our resident dentist will swoop in to allay your fears. The dentist holds no fear for me after years of teeth removed, braces and orthodontistry...
He's a doctor, not a murderer. :/ Remember it is all for your own good in the end. So while you sit through all the pain and sounds, it is for your health in the end. Just like if you were to have surgery on any part of your body not just your mouth, it is painful when it first happens, but good for you in the long run.
I have several horror stories to share, but the worst has to be when I was getting braces as a kid. In order to do so they have to pull 4 teeth, bicuspids, two on top, two on bottom. Before they pulled they shot me up with novicane on both sides of my face...only the right side wouldn't numb up. They waited half an hour and shot me up again...waited 20 minutes...and still I wasn't numb, so...they pulled the left side...got my mother, and three other nurses to hold me down...and pulled the right side. Never felt pain like that before... My densitst isn't that bad, but my oral surgen is. When I got my wisdom teeth out I could feel the pain of him drilling into my tooth to break it up before removing it. I tried to tell him but he onyl said "Be Quiet, it doesn't hurt." I was quite pissed...luckily I don't have to go to him again.
Yea, that's probably the worst part about going to the dentist. "You need to floss more, why haven't you been flossing? You should floss more often, blahblahblahblah" Even after making the dentist try it(floss won't fit between any of my teeth in the back, no crowding or anything, they're just that close), she still bitches about it.
how do you guys not go for 2-11 years? no insurance? my parents are like 50 and even they go twice a year. anyways, i hate cavities because getting needles in the mouth is NOT fun
I know how you feel. When I was little, they had to put caps on my teeth or something (I don't remember), and I was being difficult, so they strapped me down and wouldn't let my mom into the room with me. Now every time I enter a room with that dentist's office smell or even go to the dentist, I FREAK out. Good times. Good luck with your appointment! Just try and think happy thoughts...
I have no problem going to the dentist. In fact I'm usually in and out quickly with the dentist saying she wished all of her patients were as quick as this. Then I get hit with a bill. Oh and watch this for some relaxing: Never get's old...
