I think Zach is in a good spot. Shazam is my favorite DCEU movie. But what might save it is the fact that it’s kinda standalone. We hear about othe DC characters but we don’t see them. Even when Superman shows up we don’t hear him or see his face.

They probably lucked out in that sense because Cavill was originally supposed to film that scene. He ended up having scheduling issues and that's why we got the "no face" cameo. That could work out for Shazam but we'll see.

WB canned a completely finished Batgirl movie, they don't seem too worried about losing money at this point. Besides, Aquaman 2 was in major trouble after the whole Amber Heard fiasco, and Flash is in jeopardy after the whole Ezra Miller fiasco. Shazam 2 is the only movie out of the 3 whose production was untroubled, but after the first one was unexpectedly really good, I'm not too worried about the second one tanking either

And Blue Beetle is different. It's still early enough in production that things can be changed here and there if need be to fit into the new DCU. He's not a huge character so the movie is unlikely to need a lot of changes to be separated from the old DCEU

I personally like James Gunn a lot as a filmmaker. He knows well how that game is played, so I'm cautiously optimistic to see where he goes with his DCU

Because the Batgirl thread was locked, I'm posting on this thread: a BTS look at Firefly's costume.

It looks like a solid arsonist's costume, and while there's no real insect motif (except maybe the eyes) it looks creepy enough.

Also Brendan and Leslie are sweet.

I guess the DC Universe is no longer expanded.

I'm glad that movie got cancelled. Firefly and Batgirl both look terrible.

Batgirl's outfit is a pretty solid adaptation of Burnside

Firefly's helm is pretty close besides missing antennae and being form fitting. The jacket gives off a fireman/flamethrower soldier vibe which I dig.

At one point in the film, Firefly was going to be driving through Gotham in a firetruck whose roof hose was replaced with a flamethrower.

It looks like a fan film you'd find released to Youtube.
I know where her costume is from but it still looks bad. As does firefly. The helmet is big and stupid looking. He looks like a low budget SyFy channel slasher.

This was going to be a shitty movie. An almost fully finished movie doesn't get canned because it's great. If these costumes are any indication were sparred a disaster.

Can we please drop the Batgirl talk? That movies thread already got shut down because pretty much all of the discussion had run its course and I'd hate for the same thing to happen to this thread.

Nope. This is the place for it now, within the rules. This thread is fine left open as well.

I'm bummed the movie got canned. Even if it turned out an awful film, I still want to support Batgirl in a major production and Brendan Fraser. Maybe they'll end up releasing it on HBO someday or something

I keep seeing people hoping for some kind of later release but considering they killed it to take a tax write-off by not releasing it... I'm not so sure that's a possibility. Admittedly I'm not privy to how tax laws around this type of write-off work, but it seems like it would be paramount to fraud if they canned it, took a tax write-off by not releasing it, and then released it at a later date.

Most you could hope for is a bootleg unfinished leak getting out on pirate sites since they wrote it off.

I mean looking at the firefly and batgiirl outfits and remembering theyre meant to be in the keatonverse starts to pull the imagery together a bit at least for me. The exaggerated helmet on firefly works as a burtonesque homage. Batgirls suit has some similar design intent behind it in the mask to the keaton suit but the rest is more generic. Hate the boots personally

Well, the full sony popeye movie was leaked. Granted batgirls effects are not all done and it still needed to final edit so if leaked would not be the version we would have got in theatres.

It wasn't going to theaters. That's pretty much the primary reason why it got canned, because it was planned as a streaming title for HBO Max. Likewise, that's also the only reason Blue Beetle is still moving forward, because it was changed from a streaming title to a theater release.
