Are there any differences? I honestly can't see any.

 

If there were any, I don't remember anymore; as the picture shows, it does seem that the Japanese version was really the US version with a couple of stickers on the box.

Combiner Wars Deluxe Class Blades with 2008 Universe Voyager Class Blades (Cybertron Evac redeco) and Universe Legends Class Blades (Legends of Cybertron Evac redeco, from the Target exclusive "Aerial Rivals" 5-pack).


It's not quite as obvious in the photo, but Universe Voyager Blades's red plastic has by far the darkest shade of red (with maybe a very slight purple tint). Meanwhile, Legends Blades's red plastic has a very slight orange tint to it.

Also, the Voyager Class figure's deco doesn't look particularly like G1 Blades (way too much black, not nearly enough white), because apparently the deco was originally intended for an unused Evac redeco under that would have been released the under the 2007 live action movie line before Hasbro instead decided to redeco Voyager Class Blackout into Movie Evac, so the deco was then used for a Universe version of G1 Evac instead.


Hoooowever.


For whatever reason, the "Autobot Coastal Rescue" logo created for Movie/Universe Evac was reused for Combiner Wars Evac!

That's Ripclaw! The only Beast Hunters Rippersnapper was the Cyberverse Legion Class figure.

Oh hey, the prototype also has that early "prototype" Predacon insignia found on hand-painted prototypes of Cyberverse Legion Class Twinstrike and Deluxe Class Lazerback used for stock photos, the production version of the odd minor Voyager Class Predaking redeco available as part of a two-pack with a minor redeco of Voyager Class Optimus Prime that was exclusive to European Toys"R"Us stores and (apparently) available at general retail in Brazil (but never released in the United States or Canada), and also at least some specimens (there appear to exist variants for these) of the Kre-O Riplaw and Corhada figures from the "Ripclaw Strike" and "Mech Venom Strike" sets, respectively.

Other than that big blue chest it's a close match. Not the exact same shades of gray, but it seems like more than a coincidence.

The white Ultra Magnus and Minimus Ambus gang!

Not sure if the color on Classics Ultra Magnus is the beginning of yellowing, or if he had always been this slight off-white color.

Combiner Wars Minimus Ambus has definitely always been this ugly creamy white color. The Platinum Edition version is much nicer in every regard, including more and improved paint operations. (That odd white area on the window of CW Minimus Ambus's left foot is just glare from the light outside.)
