Did it get as far as a full script? I seem to remember someone, maybe Bob Forward, saying that it only got as far as a concept.

From what little we know, I think the fans would have loved reading it, even if the producers didn't think it was appropriate for a show episode.

I can’t imagine that there’s a single Beast Wars fan who wouldn’t have wanted to see that episode produced. It still comes up in discussions constantly, all these years later. Hopefully, that script does eventually sees the light of day.

Thank you for Transmutate. What an amazing story and episode. I grew up with Beast Wars. I’m not sure I could even properly articulate how much and why it blew my mind watching that as a kid, and what it made me feel. Even as an adult now, going back and watching it again, it still manages to evoke those same strange feelings as it did back then. My opinion on it as one of the best episodes of an animated series still hasn’t changed.

(Apologies for the borderline unintelligible paragraph...)

I wrote a complete first draft. Larry DiTillio did a second draft, which is the version I have.

It's bizarre to hear that "nobody liked" Dark Glass, particularly considering the denouement of Dinobot II's character hinged on events that would have been depicted in it. Was it the basic concept of the episode? Why not put it through another rewrite until it became acceptable?

All I remember (and it was a long time ago) was that Hasbro felt it was "too dark".

That's basically what we've heard in the fandom as well. But it most definitely has remained a grail for a LOT of Beast Wars fans given that from what little we know it addresses what happened to Dinobot in the series finale.

It's greatly appreciated that you swung by here, that said. Transmutate was a great episode, and the episodes of ReBoot you did were also very solid. "Icons" being a fairly significant one given you had the heavy lifting of establishing post-timeskip AndrAIa and Matrix, and illustrating how tragically Matrix had changed since the previous episode.

I loved writing those eps of ReBoot. That was a fun series, and so was War Planets aka Shadow Raiders. Mainframe did such great CG.

Wow, this thread is amazing! Christy, you've said that others didn't like the Dark Glass script and Hasbro felt it was too dark. But what did you think of it? Were you happy with your work on it and did you enjoy writing it?

I enjoyed writing it and was happy with it when I turned it in. Unfortunately, it didn't get the reception I expected or hoped for.

Shadow Raiders is a great series I've watched the whole thing about 3 times and have most of the action figures based on the show.
Ligitimately love that show. But then I'm just a miner.

Also gotta do a video on these

(My girlfriend at the time did notice a large uptick of sexual tension in those final episodes that you did. That Jewelia was certainly a piece of work)

This morning I'm working on preparing my online class for fall term and submitting my book adoption to the college bookstore. I've taught this class for several years now and have been using the same textbook since I started. As I'm reviewing the textbook info I notice the author's name "Hmmm... Christy Marx, that sounds familiar... OH RIGHT!!!".

@Christy Marx, I've been using your book, "Write Your Way Into Animation and Games" in my Writing and Interactive Design course. My students love the book and find it very informative, so thanks for writing this as well! I'm curious, are there any plans for a new edition coming up? The book is almost 10 years old and I'd love to know if you have something in the works that will stay current.

Thanks again, and I hope you see this!
