Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play | BSSLAP | Christy Marx papers

I listened to one of Christy's recent interviews where she mentioned that she was in negotiations to donate her archive of written works to The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. Did some digging and found the materials have now been received and digitised. While sadly these are for on-site research only, at least it's all been saved for the future.

There is indeed an entry for Beast Wars, though no mention of whether the contents of the disk are merely Transmutate, or whether Dark Glass is included.

Damn. I had no idea she wrote Dark Glass after Transmutate. What a great episode that would’ve been. I really want to read that script.

I did donate some very old disks to The Strong. They're so old they may or may not even be readable, and you'd need an old-fashioned A drive to even try. I honestly don't recall whether the Dark Glass script would be on those. I have my own electronic version of it, though the version I have is one that had a rewrite pass done by Larry DiTillio.

This time around, my donation mainly consisted of toys, action figures, games, dolls, and memorabilia, along with the old disks. I'll eventually give them my rather large collection of papers and scripts, but that will be a while.

I do sell autographed scripts, for those who might be interested. I'm not allowed to post a link yet by my website isn't hard to find.

Welcome to tfw Christy Marx :)

It was a tweet from the museum's archivist which led me to the main link, in which is a snippet from the Jem bible. So they appear to have the data from the Jem/GI Joe disk, which bodes well for the rest of the collection.

Wow, Christy Marx, welcome to the forum! Amazing to see a legend of storytelling like you here. And what a brilliant and unique episode Transmutate was. Certainly it made an impact on my childhood, as did many episodes of that season.

Should I mention that "leaked" script?

welcome to the board. forgive me if i am skeptical that you are who you say you are, I did enjoy the episode Transmutate, such a nice episode as a break between story and plot heavy episodes

Thanks for the welcomes. I only discovered this forum because I have an automated google alert on my name that pointed me to it.

Transmutate was a script that technically shouldn't have happened. I broke one of the primary pitch rules -- no creating new characters. Happily, they liked it enough to go ahead. I loved writing it.

Welcome to TFW and thanks so much for your contributions to the Transformers franchise. And, it's notable how that one character from that one episode has persisted over the years...no small feat. You struck a chord with that one. I'd also like to thank you for your contributions to the museum. Too much material and history often get lost or misplaced, and it's great to see people taking an active role in preserving it for all to enjoy in perpetuity.

    Seconded.

Also, slightly off-topic but I may never get another chance. Thank you for your part in making Out Of The Past happen. I know it's heresy to say on a Transformers board, but I consider it the best single episode of all the shows combined in that entire 5-year Sunbow run.

Thank you. I didn't write it, but I worked closely with the writer and did a rewrite pass on it. I agree, I think it added hugely to the Jem series.

Thanks for all the work over the years.

Was the Dark Glass script ever released anywhere? I think it's still a holy grail of sorts.

Thank you so much for not only the donations, but also signing up here!

And I know this isn't how this works, but I like to think this officially makes Beast Wars a national treasure. :D

Yeah, I've heard about how he was forced into writing it and set out to make something he thought would never be approved. Only to have the company call his bluff. That just makes the whole thing even better.

Also, not to take anything away from any of the voice cast involved, but that was definitely Samantha Newark and Jack Angel's finest performances. The fact that the latter has never really been credited for it is a shame.

Lol. Same here...but the wife says most of mine is more likely to end up at Goodwill or the dumpster as opposed to a museum...

It was a script that nobody liked, and nobody wanted out there, so it hasn't been "released" in any official sense of the word.
