Oh good, they're going with Bob, I really hated Bob, but hopefully Bob does better than Bob ever did.
LOL In all seriousness, though, I think Iger probably did a great job when you look back at the last decade, at least. I'm hoping Chapek is knowledgeable enough to do what Iger did and surpass him. We don't want to take a step back and derail it all. I'm guessing Iger was tired of having all the weight on his shoulders. The public and the fandoms haven't exactly been kind. (I'd really hate to Kathleen Kennedy...oof.)
Well, if we're going by Roman numerals, Bob C is Bob 100 and Bob I is just Bob 1. Wonder how Bob II-IC fared. I'm Iger to see what Chapek does.
Word on the street is that many, many, many Star Wars fans are rejoicing that he's gone. Also... Word on the street is that many, many, many Star Wars fans are panicking that he's gone. So there we go - finally - problem solved.
For the guy heading Disney after a record setting nine films breaking a billion dollars in one year to step down...you'd have to be BLIND to not see shit is not right at Disney. I honestly don't think Iger actually did all that great in the long run. His entire strategy behind running the company wasn't actually naturally growing Disney's own IPs, but blowing billions of dollars on existing other IPs to slap Disney's name on it. Eisner at least tried to expand Disney in new ways even if it was just copying what other people did - his way at least was unique in comparison. Iger's methods were to literally buy those people out and just slap Disney on what they were doing outright.
Bob Iger had planned to leave his position as the CEO of Disney for a while now, he was supposed to step down back in 2018, but he only decided to stay on for few more years to oversee the Fox-Disney merger, now that the merger is complete he now can step down as originally planned
Um? Doesn't that just make him second in command? Disney Surprises Wall Street & Hollywood With Timing Of Bob Iger’s CEO Exit – Deadline
That doesn't change the fact that Disney had what by all accounts should have been an absolutely stellar year and the CEO is stepping down well ahead of schedule.
You're acting like the Iger era was bad. In this era Disney gave us some of the greatest comic book movies ever made, animated movies that have been a return to the true classic Disney magic despite not being animated by hand, the best Star Wars film since ESB, the best Star Wars cartoon series ever, the Pixar masterpieces, etc.
Uh yeah it was. It was bland, they fired their animators and turned Disney into a lazy hoarder when they were once the kings of quality animated entertainment. How is that good?
The Monorails are falling apart, they're building hotels while park attendance is at record lows DESPITE the Galaxy's Edge expansion, which itself is nothing more than a glorified overpriced outdoor shopping mall with two rides, all the main actors from nuWars actively hate Disney and are unlikley to ever return (IIRC Harrison Ford had to be bribed an obscene amount to even show up in Star Wars: Plan 9 from Outer Space, Hasbro is looking to possibly drop the Star Wars licence altogether because sales are so bad (notice how at the Toyfair that just passed, there is NOTHING from nuWars), and the Skyliner was such a poorly planned addition that when shit hit the fan, people got stuck suspended in the air for three hours without proper emergency supplies due to Disney's lack of oversight. Oh, and the fact Captain Marvel had its books cooked to make it look more successful than it actually was by having Disney buy their own tickets that the IRS got involved.
/\ You mean the Star Wars license Hasbro just renewed? They're still better than all of the other animation studios out there. The only one who has any movies that can compete is Laika, but even they are hit or miss at times. For every Kubo and Coraline, you have Box Trolls. And again, they also gave us the greatest comic book movies ever made.
I hate to break this to you, but that's been Disney's strategy since the 1940s. None of their biggest movies have ever been their own IPs. Exploiting their own internally-created IPs in the last 40 or so years has been what? The Goofy Movie, Duck Tales/Rescue Rangers/Darkwing Duck on tv and...what else?
And inevitable. Figureheads at Disney have become Star Wars fan’s instinctive go-to straw men or demigods dependent on their era/trilogy preferences, so of course it’s them to be THE first to debate the departure of someone as pinnacle as Iger here. Heh it would have been more surprising if they didn’t instantly turn it into an allegiance battle.
