Who is your Acree, or the best one? We got 4 very distinct ones, I'm curious how everyone feels! Edit : added in Cyberverse, thank you Mako Crab
G1 Arcee was generally just sort of there, although I did like her in the Movie and in "Dweller in the Depths" (where she shot Galvatron's cannon). Prime Arcee is okay, I guess, although I can definitely understand why people don't like her. Her voice actor did a good job, at least. IDW's Murder Hobo (LOL ) I didn't much care for. WAAAY too many unfortunate implications; and I generally don't like "berserker" characters all that much anyway. That being said, her fighting prowess was pretty cool. No Animated Arcee? I thought the idea of her being a teacher was at least kind of interesting. Headmasters Arcee was terrible. All that said? I'm going to have to go with G1 Arcee, just because I don't like any of the others enough to overcome my nostalgia for the G1 cast. Poor Arcee. Edit: I haven't seen Cyberverse Arcee yet.
Very compelling! Headmaster Acree was basically G1, so I didn't think of it. Was Acree actual in Animated? More than 3 seconds? Dammit, I did and she is awesome
Thanks! Here's Animated Arcee: She wasn't a BIG character, but she did have some scenes outside of flashbacks.
So far, I think I'll go with the G1 version mainly thanks to Dweller in the Depths, the Rebirth and the Space Pirates saga of the Marvel UK comics. I felt she had a nice balance between the tough warrior and the kind, caring woman. However, I've heard so many good things about Cyberverse Arcee, so who knows? She might become my favorite once I get to her in the show. TFP Arcee... ugh. Normally, I would commend people when they go the PTSD route, but with Prime Arcee, they completely messed it up. She just is a hostile, unfriendly bitch, whereas I feel a PTSD character needs more emotions than just anger. Just look at Rambo. That is a case study in PTSD. Yes, he is angry, but he is also afraid, distant (but not to the point of being heartless) and has a bit of childlike traits. Prime Arcee was just angry all the time, and whenever she showed fear or sadness, it just didn't feel natural. The idea was there, but the execution was awful. Plus, a PTSD-ridden person normally has serious confidence problems that bring him/her constant doubts about their own skills, and Arcee was just way too cocky and overconfident, so that is another turn off. So yeah, she can remain up there with Headmasters Chromedome and Energon Kicker as my least favorite character in the franchise. Bayformers Arcee was there... like most of the Bayformers characters. Energon Arcee had potential, but she was a pretty meh character (the same goes for all the characters in Energon). IDW Arcee just was mishandled from the start and it really turned me off. As much as I love Simon Furman's writing in the old Marvel comics (Circuit Breaker aside), his IDW stuff had quite a lot of flaws and Arcee was one of the stuff I didn't like. Animated and Headmasters Arcee were just bland. Animated Arcee is another reason why I kinda dislike Animated. She was just a glorified plot device and really never did anything to impress me.
G1 Arcee because it is the defining character. I actually like Prime Arcee more than G1 Arcee - but she's really not Arcee at all; she's Chromia with Arcee's name. From TFWiki:
PTSD is something that it's REALLY important to handle correctly, since it's a real-world issue that lots of people, including real veterans, suffer from. Mishandling conditions like PTSD may actually be more harmful than not representing them at all. Incidentally, this is also why, while I would love to see a G1 bio-accurate Bluestreak, I always add that if he's ever used in that manner, it is very, VERY important that he's written by someone who understands how PTSD actually works.
Yeah, Bluestreak is actually a character that I do wish was explored deeper, but I agree, it should be handled by someone who really understands the core of PTSD. Like for example, Rambo. David Morrell actually based Rambo on Audie Murphy and did a lot of research for the First Blood novel after seeing some students coming from Vietnam having trouble getting accustomed to normal life and that is something that makes me respect a writer more, because it shows that he cares about the subject matter. In fact, I even tried to delve and explore the subject matter with Rodimus in the stories I've written, because I felt that someone who is that insecure of his own abilities (to the point of constantly being plagued and overwhelmed by doubt) and has tendencies towards depression must have much more inner turmoil within him than he lets everyone know. PTSD is an excellent subject matter and one that really interests me, and the reason why Prime Arcee failed for me it's because it just didn't do it properly and she just felt like... as I said before... a hostile, angry bitch instead of someone who truly is suffering from a crippling mental disorder.
Gonna be the loner and say IDW Arcee, mainly because I get the PTSD story that was being told and didn't get hung up on trying to assume everything was a personal attack when it wasn't. I say that with every thread derailed by a weeb, honestly. Just like the word Kawai popping up because a weeaboo's gotta weeb, I guess.
None of them. Arcee is like another Sideswipe. There has never been a version of Sideswipe or Arcee to me that wasn't bland. I don't care if both are two of the bigger named Autobots in the brand's history; there has never been a version of either I thought was compelling or interesting, although I do kind of enjoy some of Sideswipe's banter in WFC.
