ATTENTION MOVIE STUDIOS! 3-D is a crappy gimmick that does not mean automatic success. Just because Avatar made tons of money with this gimmick doesn't mean anyone can. And Avatar wasn't that good anyway.
At least is says "Shot in 3D" and not post processed. At least being shot in 3D will offer the "depth" the format can offer. The post process stuff simply looks like crap. But I no longer will see any movies in 3D. It's just too expensive for a less engaging, lower quality, movie experience.
Unlike a lot of recent movies where the 3D is EXTREMELY pointless, I'm actually looking forward to the 3D in Thor, Cap, and Avengers. Especially with Captain America.
If done correctly, 3-D can be decent enough. However, I absolutley DESPISE movies that decide to forgo good scripts for 3-D. The fact it looks good does not matter, it's still a pain in the ass to sit through (the god-awful "Journey to the Center of the Earth" comes to mind. Beautiful CGI/3-D effects, but the plot was just so horrible...). But for the Avengers...as long as the plot is written as well as most of the recent Marvel movies have been, 3-D could make the movie much better. But ONLY if the script is good.
This. If it's shot in 3D, like Transformers 3, it could look awesome. Those who don't like it simply need be reminded that there will always be an option, because as long as 3D movies potentially make someone sick, there will always be a 2D option. Also, shooting something in 3D doesn't automatically doom the movie to be forever in 3D. We have two eyes. Just close one and you can get your 2D, and the same can apply to movies in post. They can just process one side of the movie. Really? I mean, Really Jet? How will it being in 3D affect the movie in any way? Are you saying that if you watch the 2D version it will be any better of a movie. Or are you implying that if this news hadn't been revealed today, that the movie would be completely different? What if you saw the movie and loved it, but then found out that there was a 3D version out there? Would you start hating it? Because that's what I'm getting from your logic. How to Train your Dragon was a great movie (As was toy Story 3). Were they ruined because a 3D version exists? I'm not getting this part of the argument. If it ruins movies, then why is Toy Story 3 still a great movie? If a script is altered to make Thor shove his hammer towards the screen, then they weren't aiming to make a good movie in the first place. Avatar was an example (love it or not) of a movie that simply used 3D as a means to engulf the viewer in the world, so as long as the producers respect that, it will only make for a better experience. Still, I have no problem seeing Optimus Prime shoot me with a bullet.
Indeed, I only pay attention to these announcements when it involves a 3D camera. The effect doesn't give me headaches, so I admit I like lording that over my friends who can't take it.
Just an FYI. Cap and Thor are being done in post process and aren't being shot in 3d. Which means murky scenes in anything but pure daylight. Daylight scenes will look overcast and the entire movie will look like a cardboard cut out, not to mention the degradation of details.
Shame, means I have to wait for DVD. Oh well, I can buy the movies for only slightly more than it would cost to go see them in theaters.. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets nothing from 3D. I sometimes feel as if it's nothing but a ridiculous anti-Piracy measure.. since I imagine it would be amazingly difficult to "Cam" them..
Post process 3D is horrible. It looks like one of those paintings that have beveled areas and you see the characters bend into the background. Avoid those at all costs. If Hollywood keeps pumping those movies out and calling them Real 3D, they are going to give it a bad name and ruin the little rep that 3D has. Or, I dunno, watch the 2D version in the theater
None of my local theaters ever seen to have the 2D version. Or if they do, they don't last outside of the first week.. and I rarely go see a movie in the first week.
The only 3D movie I saw was My bloody valentine and that was good in 3D...but I will never see another 3D movie ever....
I don't think having a movie in 3-D is a necessary bad thing if done right. Avatar showed the right way to make a 3-D movie work, while Last Airbender showed what not to do. I am confident Avengers will be a good 3-D movie.
