Usually the fan only get to that point after they have been insulted repeatedly and usually the first response is very neutral. The type you are talking about is usually on the extreme side and while more common these days, not as much in the early days, and still often in the minority. But really we are just getting into the blame game and hypotheticals. This is basically what has been going on for the last several years. Some one saying they don’t like a story or how a writer is handling their favorite character, then someone suggesting they are phobic for some reason they never stated, which causes the person to lash out, which makes the other person lash out, which make’s people take sides in a pointless argument. In the end the person who said they didn’t like the direction in the first place simply stopped responding and stopped buying the comics and spent their money somewhere else because a silly whose right situation like this isn’t worth their time.

Then months later you hear the same people who took a small question and turned it into a fight ask why they aren’t making money anymore when they clearly won the argument. Well the people they were fighting with decided the argument wasn’t worth having. So they shut up and took their money with them and stopped buying the book.
Most will never call anyone a hack or get personal on a site like twitter. They may complain about it on a forum and when their complaints are attacked or they themselves are because of an opinion just decide it not worth the effort and take their money elsewhere.

I can see this conversation is going to get twisted and I have no desire for another pointless back and forth about hypotheticals.

Stan and Jack were pretty willing to call out the crappier parts of their audience. It was the 60’s and 70’s and they didn’t hesitate to call out hate groups and other things like that in the pages of the book.

I’d say that social media has been a problem. There’s numerous interviews with comic book creators where they recount death threats they received over controversial storylines. Those letters just didn’t get amplified. Now the worst responses do.

So I'm through X-Men 39 of the original run, which concludes the FoactorThree storyline and I have to say, overall, it was a let down. I was really enjoying this arc as it started in like issue 28 and was a continuous plot, but the last two issues were rushed mess. They cut the story down to 15 pages to have 5 origin story pages and you could really feel it. There were moments that made little sense or the transition of time just didn't flow right. Also, the advertised the X-Men as getting new costumes in 39, and while true, it didn't happen until the last freaking page. I'm just not sure what they were thinking. Surely they could have saved the origin stuff until after they had finished the Factor Three tale to end, right?

EDIT: X-Men 42 and I have now encounterd the first time Professor X has died.

$8.99?? 9 dollars an issue? Marvel has lost their mind.
    ULTIMATE INVASION #1 (OF 4) (APR230633)

You know the trades will likely be less than the price of buying all the issues if it costs that much.

With Hitch drawing, it'll probably take two years to finish.

I’m a person that will buy very issue Hickman writes but at this price I’m going to wait for the trades. He’s had other very expensive single issues before but this one seems extravagant.

"Meet Wyn, a mysterious player in a war that exists outside of the orders we know and a vital member of an eons-old hierarchy that includes the omnipotent rulers of the universe such as Eternity, Infinity, and the Living Tribunal. After a fateful meeting with Doctor Strange, Wyn hints at something even bigger than the forces of good and evil, where the very building blocks of creation scheme and clash. It’s the beginning of a breathtaking epic at the crossroads of science and magic, one that will shatter our understanding and open our eyes to ideas beyond all that we perceive."

    Sounds epic enough.

Marvel Comics, The Morning After The Night Before (bleedingcool.com)

Yesterday, we all got the news that there were to be changes at Marvel Comics. Three top executives who had been with Marvel for decades, Ike Perlmutter, John Turitzin and Rob Steffens were dropped, as part of a cost-cutting reorganisation within the conglomerate as a whole, and reports that Marvel Comics, as well as their toy and game divisions, would be absorbed within the greater Disney organisation.

A day later, we seem to be getting some clarity. Informed and involved sources close to the action tell me that what we know as Marvel Comics may well be branded as part of Marvel Studios, with Kevin Feige in charge – just as he has been in recent years – but with Dan Buckley managing Marvel Comics and reporting into Feige, also as he has been for years, don't expect many big changes.

There is to be no "dissolution" of Marvel Comics, publishing comic books out of New York, with the current staff. This didn't change when Disney bought Marvel, and it isn't changing now. Words like "redundant" don't reflect the reality of Marvel Comics or their position within Disney, where they are seen as both valuable legacy and a creator of new IP, tested in the comics market, then turning into movies, TV, games and more. But they are not a loss leader, or a funded research company, the publishing division of Marvel Comics continues to make money for Disney in its own right, ironically the kind of thing that Ike Perlmutter made sure of. Marvel remains the largest superhero comics publisher, saw their sales increase during the pandemic, and remained profitable for Disney then and now, and there is no incentive to absorb Marvel within Disney Publishing. Yet.

Much of the Marvel merchandise will be sidelined to Disney, I am told, but Hasbro are deep into a multi-year master deal for toys and statues that won't be threatened by this. While Marvel Games remain a third-party licensor, who work with multiple studios on different titles. Will there be change? Maybe, Disney has been paying the cheques to staff and talent for years, comic creators are familiar with getting a cheque with a mouse on it, those who still get cheques. There may just be greater synergy with Marvel Studios, Marvel Comics and everyone else, especially with the X-Men coming on board to the MCU…

What it will be like six years down the line, we don't know. But right now, for Marvel Comics, it's business as usual. Should be some fun questions to ask them at C2E2 in Chicago from tomorrow. If you're not at Megacon in Orlando today, that is.

None of this is very surprising. Perlmutter’s firing was a sure thing as soon as he went up against Iger so publicly. His recent alleged actions and flare up over Kevin Feige likely had him on thin ice. Whatever lifelines he had were severed once he tried to stage his rebellion. And given what he did it was likely that Iger decided to take out those loyal to him as well.

We’ve known for a while Marvel Comics was in good health financially. There’s no reason for Disney to fold them up.

So, sounds like the comics side other than some layoffs will stay as is. This will affect the toys and merch the most from what people are saying.

One is a limited series, so it is hopefully all done by launch.

Hickman is notorious for running behind schedule and having long delayed issues. Let’s hope he’s improved.
