Just finished rewatching Kakuranger’s Christmas episode and I also rewatched Gekiranger’s own Christmas episode not too long ago and even rewatched the Christmas episode from the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers before that. I am also rewatching Gokaiger’s own Christmas episode.

We started to play catch-up Kamen Rider Geats today. Got through 4-9 and so far, I remain as bored with this lot as I was with the first three. Still can't stand Neon and her rich girl problems either. Right now, the soundtrack is the best thing about it.

I am now slowly but surely getting back to watching Gavan. I'm actually considering watching some more shows of the Metal Heroes franchise among my Toku viewings during the new year especially Spielban, Jiban, and the B-Fighter duology and maybe another rewatch of Metalder just because I can.

I am up to episode 41 of my Boukenger re-watch. Hopefully, I should be able to finish my revisiting of the series very soon and perhaps either start my re-watch of Magiranger or finally continue right where I left off on Maskman. Even managed to finish Kamen Rider Den-O a few days ago.

Well, we just finished catching up on Geats. Still not totally sold on the show, but it is starting to at least get a bit more interesting.

It's been a long time coming but I am now finally halfway through Maskman. I am also down to the final five episodes of my Boukenger rewatch.

Might even start my Magiranger rewatch very soon.

I just finished Ultraman Mebius and this series has truly become one of my favorite Ultraman series right alongside Tiga and Ultraseven and I seriously love Crew GUYS as this show’s defense team even more so than GUTS and the Ultra Guard respectively because they are effectively the underdogs that ultimately grew to become a very effective team that works alongside the Ultra Hero and even helps him out just as much as he helps them.

I'm up to episode 46 of my Boukenger re-watch and, well, I really don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking but am I the only one that feels like this episode, especially considering the whole thing with Yaiba and Masumi including the final battle with the former, should've been a two-parter? Hell, the writers barely did jack shit with this subplot up to this point outside of the earlier episodes. It just seems they inexplicably forgot all about it before they suddenly remembered it during the show's endgame arc. Not to mention that before this point, the would-be darkness inside of Masumi's heart pretty much across as nothing more than a Informed Attribute.

    just saw Shin Ultraman tonight...

pretty fun reimagining of the entire series into a pretty packed 2 hr film...

there is some cultural stuff that gets a little lost in translation...

some very interesting cinematography with those weird camera angles...

i really liked the reimagined kaiju, with pretty faithful designs to the costumes but added cgi for some extra oomph...the Ultra Q homage in the teaser with all sorts of monsters before Ultraman shows up that also sorta homages Shin Godzilla with Gomess' design was really cool...

the one exception is Zetton, more of a satellite weapon than a creature...

they replicated the miniature flying figure quite faithfully, even the sorta goofy way it was spun around in circles to represent various powers...

never thought they would do an homage to the giant Fuji episode but there it was...

the modernistic take on world politics, on how Japan fits into the heirarchy of nations when it is the only one that seems to have to deal with kaiju and extraterrestrials...

humanity having the potential to be great beings like those from the planet of Light, or the possibility to be cultivated as easy bioweapons and thus feared/desired by other alien races...a lot of stuff going on in the film...

having Zoffy sorta be a villain, in the sense that he's gotta enforce the Light rules of non-interference and then sort of declaring humanity needs to be exterminated as it is only a blip on the grand cosmic scale is pretty dark take for the Ultras...

the jarring ending of the film is another one of those things that I didn't quite get...no hopeful stinger that Ultraman might still live on...no hint at a sequel...

guess there is a dubbed version showing tomorrow night...that might be interesting to see on the bluray as there were a lot of subtitles that flashed by quickly at the start of the film...

Yeah, that pissed me off. Like the one scene where the subtitles disappeared before the politicians even finished half of their sentence. They did that on The Next and Nexus DVDs too.

i wonder if using Jirahs as their Shin Godzilla stand-in would have been a bit too on the nose for Toho

I have finally decided to start to watch Spielban and will probably start watching Jiban after I finished up on the former series.

    Ultraman Max is here:

Which means that this is the end of Mill Creek's tenure for the franchise. It's amazing how much they released in only a few years. Nearly every series.

I'm now up to episode 7 of Spielban. It took a little bit for it to find its footing but I am pretty invested with this series so far. I even finished re-watching Boukenger as of yesterday and I am also 13 episodes away from finishing up on Maskman and have gone through 15 episodes of Gavan. I also finally just started my Magiranger re-watch and it does feel good watching this particular series again especially under much better English subtitles. I am also considering watching Bioman next after I am finished with Maskman and at some point, continue where I left off on Ultraman Ace and/or possibly start on Ultraman Gaia.

I'm currently 32 episodes into Ultraman Nexus and it is the Ultraman equivalent to Kamen Rider Hibiki.

I'm up to episode 12 of my Magiranger re-watch and, man, this show is even more enjoyable to watch under much better English subtitles than it already is under TV-Nihon's. I'm also up to episode 41 of Maskman. I should be able to finish the latter series in the near future.
