TFwiki's refusal to have 3rd party info is detrimental.

There are several places on the TFwiki that mention third party toys. For instance the Hasbro Q&A has one site asking Hasbro about them. The page for "Remain in Light 2 of 5: House of Ambus" mentions Rager and Cogz, who appear on one of the alternate covers.

Also, it MIGHT be worth mentioning any of the MANY times the TFwiki has been ripped off by having their text appear in bios of third party Transformer boxes. For instance the bio for Impossible Toys Wasper is lifted from the TFwiki page on Animated Wasp.

DX9's Medilance and Plague came out in January.

On-topic, my $0.02 on the issue is that while I don't think the TFWiki should have articles dedicated to every third party toy or company, it's still become such a large part of the fandom and franchise that it's too big of an elephant in the room to willfully ignore. There should be one article on third party products as a concept, but that should be it. They can fill it up with all the moral high ground soapboxing, Ramjet toast jokes, and ROTF Sideways is Unicron malarkey they want, but a resource on Transformers product and fandom shouldn't just pretend that third party stuff doesn't exist.

I actually saw some reviews on Medilance and Plague in the very end of December, even if most people didn't get them until January.

Just added Toyworld Evila Star, Sideload and Shinebug to the list. Added Warbotron Turbo Ejector and Whirlwind to the list. Added TFC Toys Redcross and Verti-Aid.

So here is the current list:

    A

    Alberich (Unique Toys)
    Apollyon (X-Transbots)

    E

    Evila Star (Toyworld)

    F

    Felisaber (Mastermind Creations)

    G

    Gemini (X2 Toys)
    Godarmor (Xovergen)

    M

    Muddy (Toyworld)

    O

    Overclocking (SXS)

    R

    Redcross (TFC Toys)

    S

    Shinebug (Toyworld)
    Sideload (Toyworld)
    Soar (FansToys)

    T

    Turbo Ejector (Warbotron)

    V

    Verti-Aid (TFC Toys)

    W

    Whirlwind (Warbotron)

It's a resource on official Transformers product, not every vague fact or idea about Transformers

Like it or not, unofficial Third Party stuff has no place there. They're basically three dimensional fanfiction, and the only time that gets mentioned is when it intersects with official stuff

Funny thing... TFwiki is a fan-written synopsis of the comics and episode, jokes by the fans, and pictures taken by fans. Very little official content appears there. They don't quote the tech specs, mottos, bio, much, and only occalionally quote the characters. TFwiki is a massive joint fan fiction effort!

They just choose as their subject matter all Hasbro and Takara licensed material. That's their choice. If they want to be limited in subject matter, but then write about that limited subject in great detail, more power to them.

Well, TFwiki also has entries on prominent fans and people from the fanfic sphere, don't they?

Ah, but you've just subverted your own point there... the fandom INCLUDES 3rd party, after all. And a Wiki, in spirit, should serve the public need for information. Following the same logic you put forward, if Transformers really has no connection to 3rd Party, then there must be nothing wrong with 3rd party, right? They're not related to Transformers at all. They are just coincidentally exactly based on branded TF content? :)

Despite the legal acrobatics involved, to argue that 3rd party has nothing to do with Transformers is a huge stretch. They are intimately related, and the FANDOMS are intimately related (if not the same).

I think that there is a conflict of interest to be sure... like, if the TFwiki were a Hasbro/Takara commercial project. If there's a question of sponsorship, or of HasTak exerting pressure on the site because it promotes their "competition", that's a pragmatic reason not to cover 3rd party.

However, in the interests of documenting the fandom, the collecting world, and all things Transformers-related, it is contentious to pretend that this big 3rd Party thing doesn't exist. I mean, include it or not, I don't really care, but the reasoning for excluding any historical acknowledgement of the HUGE 3rd party phenomenon is spurious at best... it becomes about partisanship, rather than actually documenting the state of the fandom/collecting sphere, and providing useful reference material. Even in so far as to say "Hey, this thing you have that looks like Optimus Prime is actually an unofficial thing very pointedly made to look like his design in a specific IDW comic" or whatever.

*EDIT* Oh, this thread is actually much longer than I thought it was.... :p

Lol, no. Not really an inviting SIG you got there as it's a lil all over the place. But I do see it now. Not that I needed a wiki(don't think most people here would need one), but it's still handy for those more rare older 3p it's not being made anymore.

Well, Wikialpha has had material directly donated from people working at several 3PTF companies. Does that count?

Only when it intersects with the official stuff, however

I mean, take Eugenesis, Robert's big thing. Its mentions on the wiki are on Robert's page, on Star Sabre's page as where it came from... And that's it. There's no description of it. There's no bits about it on appropriate character pages. Its just there when it intersects, and otherwise there are no references.
