And, there, with the style options, goes away my only real quibble with the update. Awesome job, love it! :D

We're basically talking about kilobytes of data for these pages aside from the pictures. Any image I've already seen on threads I visit often should be cached on my computer and cause no load on the server. It's a dumb decision and I stand by that point. All of this is to help the web site and not the user experience. This site is not causing ANY user bandwidth issues. People use tens to hundreds of gigabytes of data per month streaming stuff, this website is a drop in the bucket for their web data.

I get there was the issue with copying and pasting links when you're on different post counts, but you're telling me there's no possibly way that you can code a url to have the post count somewhere in the url which could then be deciphered by your login's post count and show it correctly? Anyway, that was the least of my problems with the old site.

I could care less who did the code, it doesn't make it a good decision. I'm not even kidding I'm using the site less in the last few days because it's pretty annoying to view now. If I come into a brand new thread and there's hundreds of posts like in the last MP Megatron post, I actually do like to go through and read them. I find the new site annoying to scroll page after page; I use 80 post per page counts on other forums that let me do it.

I just realized that all the review videos in the feedback forum have become links that take you off site instead of embedded like they where originally posted.

Thanks @Tony_Bacala. I'm using the Bit Darker. It does help with the eyes. :)

I'm beginning to hate this new layout. It's actually HARDER to post here on mobile than it was before. I can't scroll down a text entry box while typing (as it just moved the whole text entry box, due to it being a layer over the discussion page, rather than being attached at the bottom of the page) and it will only allow me to add one pasted piece of text in the correct place. Any additional pasted text will always go to the top of the text entry box, no matter what I try.

Right now, this new, so-called "mobile friendly" layout is most certainly NOT mobile friendly.

Please fix this. It's really doing my nut in.

If you can't fix it, please give us the option to just load the old style layout and ignore this new, broken version.

    Cheers.

I seem to be the opposite, the mobile version version works great while the desktop version has suffered immensely.

Future videos should show, the conversion process borked existing links tho. Working on fixing that after the fact.

I don't have any of those issues personally. What browser and operating system are you using?

There is no option to load the old style because this is not just a new look, but new underlying tech powering the forums.

Unfortunately Social Groups were a casualty. Something that a few (tho, a few) used regularly, but we had to axe. There is no 1 to 1 substitute. Group PMs are an option, but there are limits there so it won't be exactly the same.

Radicons / Fan Art thumbnail previews have been upped to 150 x 75, what it was before the upgrade. It works a bit differently than before, so some may be blurry if the original pic chosen is more tall than wide. To avoid that, choose wide oriented pics as your thumbnails from here forward.

At the top of the forum, you can click on "Watched Threads". If you go to your profile page, you can manage the alerts associated with those threads under the "Alert Preferences" section.

In the nav on every page - "Watched Forums" and "Watched Threads" are the equivalent of your old Subscribed lists.

I marked red dots next to other areas which are related to finding new content as well in the pic below:

Times a few hundred users working concurrently... times a few times a minute.. times 1440 minutes a day.. times 31 days a month. 1k difference over 1000 concurrent users doing things twice a minute = 44 gigs of bandwidth per month for that one tiny delta. And the real numbers are much higher.

The real issue is bigger pages = higher load on the servers. While you may be thinking 'me me me' - the communal need is that the servers are healthy and effective so all requests are handled quickly and efficiently. Having a fast and responsive site IS a user-centric need.

Images are cached, but not the rendering of the page or serving it up unless there is extra web caches in use.

For the users its about page speed. Slow loading websites will run people off like herpes. Your browser will also run significantly higher in memory and CPU when its rendering huge pages.

It's one of several points for why it was done this way.. which I tried to educate you on why it's not some arbitrary thing and why the developers chose this direction. You can 'not care' .. I'm just providing you the knowledge.. I can't force you to accept it. You as a user may not care about SEO theories.. that doesn't make them irrelevant.. or you may think 'my PC is fine with 200 images per page' that doesn't make the rest of the world like yours. You may never browse via mobile... but that doesn't mean you dictate what everyone else does.

I can tell you that every site that makes this transition has some people that get hung up on this.. and most all get past it. Because moving over and clicking 'next' isn't really that big of a deal. You still scroll amount virtually same amount.. (you lose 1-2 posts per page due to the header/footer space).. the difference is your page loads in chunks instead of one super sized page that loads slower.

You will also find people that ran the default, then tried to jump to 50-100 posts quickly changed back because of the negative impacts. Those that really felt the need to increase it seem to settle on about 40ish tops because of the trade-offs. The vast majority use the defaults because the gains outweigh the few that won't let go of their old ways.

People seemed to be REALLY hung up on page numbers on this site due to how they conditioned themselves to read the site. It doesn't have to be that hard...

If there are well established groups.. that you can establish some threshold for.. maybe consider giving them private subforums? I don't know of the scales you are talking about.. but that's always an option if group membership isn't too much of a burden
