We had a warning sticky at the top of every forum...

 

The software doesn't allow all threads i the Sightings forum to be on a single page. So if we alphabetize, there would be about 5 pages, all the time. Once things get settled, we'll discuss how to handle that specific area going forward.

Right now, system software is built to send links to threads. That may change at some point, but isn't a guarantee.

 

That explains it. It still feels a little unusual though.

 

Not unusual at all. Had to pick a specific time to begin migrating the forums to a completely unrelated piece of software. Anything past that start point had no way to carry over. It was a process that took the better part of four days to do.

Oh...well that's neat. I haven't seen any other forums do it that way, but when you think about it, that's how you really would want it to be.

It was probably either the site was down until the new version is up or to do it like this. There will be complaints either way, but it probably had fewer this way.

 

The new gallery section is really nice.

 

How does one do a spoiler tag/button? And does it work for images?

 

Ice... when you're typing a reply/post, just click on the 'insert' icon...3 icons to the right of the smilie face ... and you'll see a drop down box that will allow you to choose an insert... one of which is a spoiler tag.

I found out some information for Rescue Bots btw and I already posted but I didnt know how to do the spoiler thing so I left it uncovered.

 

This seems nice. I like how the toy section is broken up, but it seems some figures are missing.

 

I noticed that, but I don't think a lot of people did. I don't remember when but a few times in the last week the announcement wouldn't show up for me. I only refrained from posting because I saw it that one time and maybe once more after that. Most likely a bug, and a mystery we'll never solve.

Anyway, I can't from a technical point judge how much of an improvement this update is, but I trust it's a marked improvement for the site overall. The only thing more impressive than this update is how the site went without one for as long as it did. And while I'm a stickler for mid-2000 message board layouts for pure nostalgic reasons, an update as broad as this looks like it'll be more beneficial for a majority of the community. Golf claps all around staff.

The only critique I can give right now is the "jump to page" buttons next to the forum topics are too bright when next to the light gray background. Maybe a navy blue would look better, because they're almost invisible unless you squint really hard. Other than that I can't think of anything else I'd like to change about the update besides adding in more dark colors.

 

When I go to my profile page, under the 'postings' tab, I can see conversations as well as thread posts. Can other users see these conversations if they visit my profile page? If so, PMs aren't really that P...

 

As I understand it, only the Conversation Participants can 'see' the conversation listed under your INBOX, most likely you and 1 other member, (tho others can be invited to participate in the conversation).... as explained to me, adding multiple members won't usually won't happen, so if kept between 2 participants, then those are the only 2 ppl that can read the 'PM'.
However, if you or others involved in the conversation invite several other ppl to join in, then those can view the convo as well.

Note: those messages listed on your PROFILE page, are the equivalent to our old Visitor Messages and are still public, not private messages.

It only let me start one with 5 recipients.
I want like 50 (....or something like that  )
