Was able to chat with Ben and John at Hascon last week. Was a crazy busy week here and the audio on my recording was wacked so needed time to do it right and salvage this thing.

These guys are really good at interview kung fu, they can pivot and redirect with the best of them. Hopefully there are some nuggets in there for everyone though!

Thanks for the scoop, Tony. With the utmost respect to John/Ben/the Hasbro crew, you can't stand back and say stuff like "the reception to Movie Masterpiece has been awesome." The very idea of it has been awesome, the thought of seeing that iteration of Transformers I grew up with follow me into present day in physical form is awesome, and the prospect of getting more of these figures is awesome. However, there has to be acknowledgement towards the complications plaguing MPM Optimus Prime. I completely understand that it would not be in HasTak's best interest to admit their mistake, but some form of reassurance/confirmation of a 2nd run MPM would really make folks happy. MPM-4 is so enjoyable as it is its flawed state for me, imagine how I'd feel if HasTak provided a copy with no flaws.

As of the time being, I am still impressed that MPM was revived, and am still looking forwards to everything Hasbro has to offer for Transformers. Even if it's not my alley/not my style, I can appreciate the direction they're taking the brand.

Geez, these guys are good dodgers. You'd probably be more likely to get the information you want by asking a completely unrelated question.

    "What's your favorite color, John?"

"So yeah, you'll probably be seeing that Voyager Snapdragon in 2020."

Boss I like how you asked 1 question about Apeface and they gave you an entire paragraph about how Combiner Wars began...WHAT THE?! LMAO!!!!!!

Hmmmm....so they shed light that the MPM line is a Hasbro/Takara initiative while G1 MP is mainly Takara. Man I wish Takara handled all MP's solely with Hasbro just saying which movie characters they want made in the line. Maybe Prime would've turned out better had Takara worked on it solo.

OH and I volunteer to ask these guys the questions they don't know they're being asked to get the answers we want. I'm well versed in their psychological guerilla operations and mental chess warfare having tangoed with the Hasbro Q & A years back. I am the hero this fandom needs.

    Yeah seriously.

I would love to have a serious, off the books comversation with these guys and what they really think instead of all the dodgy bussiness speak.

Having legal repercussions really doesn't undermine the scope of anything. I mean, look at @WEEGEE , dude's always talking about how his lawyers* won't let him comment on stuff, but he's still bubbling with personality /s

*I've even been threatened by them once. It was an unforgettable experience.

I'm still curious about the missing MP-09, haha. How long will it take to fill in the gap, with no more domestic MPs announced at the moment? Or will they just ignore the inconsistent numbering?

Showing balls got me in trouble with lawyers in the first place(even though I don't listen to them since they're babies). Showing balls doesn't pay the bills(unless you're one buck chuck). Showing balls is inappropriate.

In all seriousness they have to recite that corporate jargon because its their job. If they were honest why would they be business men in the first place.

How is a "Headmaster-centered line with a size class composed exclusively of triple-changers" not the time to do Apeface and Snapdragon?

    Fuck outta here.

That's what happens when you have a website becoming too cozy to a corporate conglomerate. Soft balls akin to something out of Entertainment Tonight or a politically biased show.

"I think it’s important to note we’re always listening." ~John Warden

    .............Okay!

    - Reflector at retail is like 34 years pass due.
    - The lack of quality has caught up with Bayformers.
    - That last Machinima story line was horrible.
    - Every figure that we ask for (Starscream, OP, Dinobots) doesn't always need a gimmick that compromises what could've been a near perfect figure.

Too bad we can only assume and guess why TLK toy line was a almost total fail. Only like 3 good figures.

I notice that a lot, besides that interview, sadly... This interview says a lot more about the state of mind (complacence) of Transformers fandom, than it says about the state of affairs at Hasbro. If a fandom (and via extention, one of its biggest representative pages) doesn't keep the corporate conglomerate on its toes to keep improving, who will? Maybe that's why they don't care for improving.

"John: It’s interesting to be part of the fandom right now. There’s so much positivity happening. I remember 5 years ago, you’d get some really tough questions from fans. Nowadays people are really excited, they just want to understand what’s next. It’s a great place to be in."

That's laughable first to suggest that things are better than 5 years ago. And to suggest that they don't get tough questions anymore.

John gets plenty of tough questions about things that aren't Generations, he just either straight up lies (telling movie fans to wait for Hascon) or just dodges the question entirely. But I guess he had just took part in a panel, where the toughest part of the Q and A was when they asked what was his star sign.
