Here's a raw version of my entry for the TFW2005/Razer contest (since it can be opened a WIP thread). It needs some odds and ends fix and a game title (suggestions accepted), I thought "Twin's Beat" since it sounds like a kind of music and the objective of the game, kick Skids and Mudflap's tailgates. Here's also a close-up of the gamescreen.
I imagined it would have been appreciated... and you know what? I actually like the Twins, at least their look.
nice! that's based on scott pilgrim right? if you want some polishing tips, there are a couple of very quick and easy things you can do in photoshop to get them looking more gamey - - paste the photographic images into a new file, then click on image/mode/indexed colour, then de-select 'dither', and reduce the number of colours until it starts looking more cel-shaded. about 6-8 colours should do it. slightly more long winded than other methods, but you get a bit more control.. then paste into the main image - add strokes to the characters (on the layer itself: right click, layer properties, stroke), the same width and colour as the other outlines in the background - add shadows, the shadows in scott pilgrim are just plain black elipses - do filters / pixellate / mosaic on everything.. characters and shadows. cell size of 3px or 4px should do it. here's an example: -
Thanks for the tips, I'll try and see to it. Yes, the scenery is from an image I googled of Scott Pilgrim, I just sweat blood removing all the characters in it, but I was thinking of quite older sidescrolling Beat'em Ups I used to play when I was a kid, like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Double Dragon, ecc. I just noticed a Skids surfing on the door of Mudflap... correction number 18, get mudflap a layer over Skids. How about this? Now I'll just set some finishing on the machine when I have some spare time and tomorrow will put on the final as my entry. I decided to upload also the original screen from Scott Pilgrim, so you can rate my character elimination skills.
Final Fight and Knights of the Round were my favourites, especially all the armour and weapon upgrades on Knights of the Round, great fun
Also photoshop CS5 has a tool to magically remove objects, automatically filling in what it thinks should be behind them based on looking at all of the surrounding areas in the rest of the image, very clever stuff: Adobe Photoshop CS5 - Content-Aware Fill - YouTube
cs3 has clone stamp at least, i can't imagine life before that. and yeah, that's alot of characters to have removed from that screenshot!
It's done! As soon as I get home I'll post it in the contest page (quite a bit of changing along the way).
