One more Transformers Fall of Cybertron toy gallery for you! This time we're spotlighting the Decepticon Communicator, Soundwave. There's not a lot to be said about Soundwave that has not already been said about Soundblaster, who is also out in the same assortment. He's a big, chunky toy - refreshingly reversing the trend of making the toys smaller / lighter, Soundwave feels a whole lot more solid than a few of the Prime Voyagers have done. Soundwave's built around his "deploy minions" gimmick, which is fun to do and works decently well.

What will ultimately be the make-or-break for many is that Soundwave is a built out of scale with the other War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron characters released so far - he needs to be for the Data Disk gimmick - although he is a very good size next to Classics Megatron, so there's always the possibility of having this be your Classics Soundwave. If you're a one deco only guy, you might well want to go for Soundblaster instead so you've got two different characters in your collection.

However you do it, I strongly recommend picking up one of the two, because he is a very good and solid toy, one of the best and most fun Voyagers to come along this year. Solidly recommended.

Can he assume a boombox mode like the WfC version could?

    ... this is important.

I kinda only want him for his minions. I don't really care for Soundwave himself, since I have the deluxe who, IMO, is much better and obviously more in-scale.
    But those minions.
    Sooooo cool.

    Eearrgghh...I didn't realize that. :(

Still I think I will get this as just a novelty piece later on, definitely not a priority. I was planning on maybe using him to be a Classics version, but he just towers to much over Classics Voyager Megatron. And he looks ridiculously out of place with the "Cybertronian" Decepticons. The original WFC version will still remain in place.

The Vehicle mode does not exist for me. Robot mode and Boombox mode and that is it.

This guy is just too big. That is my issue with him. I need his minions, but that is about it.

Yeah for WFC and Especially FOC with their downsizing (and supersized price but that's another story) he does not work. On his own or with Voyager Classics he works great

This Soundwave voyager is horrible. He's more of an "ultra" class size. He'll fit in nicely with mp prime or maybe even tfp weaponizers prime/bumblebee. The deluxe is still better but if your a Soundwave lover (im not) I guess it works...on an mp scale...sort of

"Towers over"? o_O  He's the same size as Classics Voyager Megatron. I don't see how the heck that comes across as "towers over".

Anyway, I just found him at my local Toys-R-Us yesterday and bought him on impulse. This guy is frickin' awesome! His transformation is practically identical to the deluxe version with the cassette gimmick accommodated. Though I admit, the back of the figure doesn't look good when the data disks are loaded in robot mode. Still an awesome toy though. Looks great alongside Classics Voyager Megatron.

Still, I agree that for a strictly WFC/FOC collection, the deluxe is the better choice.

Nope, too short to be an "Ultra". Definitely a Voyager. A large Voyager mind you but still a Voyager.

I do like the size of this toy, the scale makes me think he would make an excellent repurpose for a fan character of some kind for a photocomic

I see no reason to own this figure. It has pretty much the same transformation as the deluxe, but this figure suffers from gimmicks.
