Last month saw the release of two Japan-only entries into the Transformers Prime line, and today we're bringing you a gallery of the first of these two Japan only releases - Gaia Unicron!

Season 1 of Transformers Prime ended, as many of you already know, with the awakening of the Chaos Bringer on the Autobot's adopted homeworld, forming avatars of himself from the rocks and mountains of Earth to face them. This toy recreates the look of the robot mode and has some nice rocky texturing. His poseability is a little on the limited side because of the design, but thanks to the massive horns on the shoulders and skeletal wings, Unicron has a real presence about him.

Gaia Unicron's alternate mode is a bit odd, and it's not 100% clear exactly what it is meant to be - but stand it on end and you get a nice mountain with Unicron's face in it, recalling the scene where Megatron spoke with Unicron in One Shall Rise Part 1. There's also the Gaia Armor mode, which lets Unicron merge with Optimus Prime or Megatron. It's random and you'll either love it or hate it. But it's a bit of fun extra functionality all the same.

Gaia Unicron comes with the Arms Micron Bog or Bogu, depending on your translation, a rocky little mole tank that forms Unicron's hook arm for the complete show-accurate robot mode. There's plenty of Arms Micron sockets on all Unicron's modes, so plenty of scope for different weapon combinations if you've got a good stock of Arms Microns or other weapons with 5mm pegs.

All in all, he's an odd design, quirky and all, but worth the price of entry because ultimately, this is the closest we'll get to a Unicron in the Prime toyline.

That is one hot mess of a toy (comment meant to be taken both positively and negatively).

 

When this figure first posted as a preorder I was conviced that I "needed" it for my Prime collection. Even at the highly exagerated import price. As time wore on and I've seen more and more shots, I know I dont need it.

The alt mode is whimsical at best, the accessories are laughable, and the "armor".......

Yeah, I'm comfortable with not bleeding my wallet to add Uni to my shelves when the execution is this poor and lacks so much by way of planning and forethought.

Well, he didn't really have an alt mode in the show.

 

Just to confirm, there is only one version of this mold right? (I got it into my head that there was a recolor out there somewhere)

 

NNice pictures! But where are the ones with PRID Prime in the armor?  

 

The alt mode is like a bad fan mode! Wow. But the robot mode is cool. They shouldn't have even advertised that it transformed.

I actually like it, but the giant face on his back is a deal breaker, it's just lazy. At the very least a couple of flaps to cover it, or have parts of the face flip or fold away to make it, you know, not a face. The rest of the robot mode is great, and mountain mode is surprisingly good too.

Unless this comes to regular US retail, these are moot points for me anyway, as I wouldn't shell out to import him.

I just cant get behind the alt mode. I get that its a giant G1 reference but it really feels out of place within its own canon.

Also the combining gimmick is both fugly and a waste of time.

 

I've not got the Cyberverse Megatron in there - the one with the mountain mode is the Arms Micron Gashapon Megatron, the rest are the FE Deluxe, except the armour which is the Voyager.

I've not got any version of that one yet. Though I'm getting Nemesis Prime next month and all being well I'll do a gallery for him - so I'll include some pics of Gaia Nemesis Primacron with that one  

As far as I know this is the one and only - certainly there's no recolour or anything that I'm aware of, though he does look a bit less vibrant and more muted / earthtones in the show - perhaps it is that you are thinking of?

At first I thought it looked pretty good in the prototype shots... but seeing videos of how metallic/shiny he is... it made me cancel the order I had on BBTS.

Truth be told... this needs an earthy redeco. If it were stylized like he was on show... both bot and rock face mode would look leagues better.

There's no saving those awkward looking Armor Modes... not even covering him with a hundred Microns like peaugh did. sorry dude.

 

Better paint job and Ultra size would have been nice.

 

i thought he was bigger. for some reason, i had him the same size as armada unicron...

 

Is quite cool when they design it to be able to combine with Optimus Prime or Megatron

 

That hook mode Bog forms for Armada Unicron is so damn clever, I really wanna try that!
