Here we have TFP RID Optimus Prime. With this custom I tried a new technique. All paints are Tesors Enamels. I began by base coating everything in Gloss Black and dry brushing it in Silver. Gloss Red and Dark Blue cover almost everything else except him windshield which was painted in Semi Gloss Black. I did brighter Silver under his chest and for the windshield frames. Bright Yellow was used on the chest lights. His headlight are not painted. I took some white reflective tape and cut it to size. After that was dried, I sanded him in strategic areas to bring the black through and make him look like he's seen a few battles. I had a lot of fun with this one and I am pleased with how he turned out. Please comment on this and let me know what you thing. I would really like the feedback. //i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af293/cheetor2/TFP%20OP04_zpsbkam47qe.jpg[/IMG]
Okay, honesty inbound- I do like the idea, and see the amount of work you put into it, but the technique needs some refinement. I see a number of spots where the sanding went down to the base plastic color, which hurts the overall appearance. Some spots are really good, while others look over done. Another spot that is kind of distracting is the bumper. The sanding looks like it was done in sections (right, center, left) rather than as one piece. Personally, any time I ever did this technique, I based with enamels and top coated with acrylics. The paint sands off easier, and doesn't require much sanding. I apologize if this seems a bit too critical. No harm intended.
Thank you. That is very helpful. The 2 spots where it goes down to the base plastic, That was just a mistake on my part that I forgot to fix. I did get a little carried away on the front bumper and should have gone across the entire thing instead of in sections. Again, thank you for your feedback. This is exactly what I wanted.
