Some box sets had two of the same leg.

Most had left and right legs or knees swapped.

    FunPun/TFCC blamed it on Hasbro.

Went to Hasbro folks, they explained the process sufficiently to the point I was satisfied they're absolved of responsibility here - including the difference between Habro product QC and FunPub QC.

Takara folks were shocked they let these toys go to the fans, but overall have no real power in the situation.

TFCC then blames it on manufacturing (which is of course who they paid to run the lines and pump out these products).

The question still open, how the hell do I get a proper Canonball? We even popped fresh cases with some of the FunPub people and every box set in every case had problems.

This is completely ignoring the Ginrai paint issues which are annoying but less severe (except those with the face paint issues).

It's not acceptable to pay what we paid for the toys and sets and have these problems. It's further insulting to be told you're SOL.

This isn't a hating on FunPub thread. Against all odds, they did a hell of a job on the show overall. The Universal night in place of Casino was pretty amazing (except universal running out of Evac because they're stocking less to keep AOE on the shelf).

That said, and I'm quoting one of Takara designers here, this must be made right. From last years shoulder issues to TFCC 1.0 and nemesis smokestacks rubbing off against the top of the box....

We are paying a ridiculous price for these toys, it's not too much to expect them to be assembled correctly.

I like the mentality of the Takara designers so much. I like these guys and wish to have those children.

from what i have seen here on TFW2005 there seems to be QC issues with the Botcon figures almost every year. can't recall any complaint threads about last years set but its entirely possible i missed or forgotten them.

Not defending anyone but you have to take in consideration at the factories in China where they are produced the workers get low wages and are usually forced to work long hours to make deadlines so mistakes happen, now on a main line release figures these error would be scattered among many figures who are just fine.

Now a short run like the botcon figures are have a greater chance for errors as the dealine is probably shorter than for a Hasbro or takara release and given its a smaller less profitable run the factories probably do not watch as close.

Last year, Hoist and Electro had misassembly problems in their upper bodies. In some cases, irreparably so.

deltagod, sorry to hear about the QC issues with your figure, and apparently many other figures as well.

Can you tell us more about what the Hasbro rep told you about differences between Hasbro and Funpub QC? This could actually provide us some insight in what's going on.

I know you don't want to turn this into a 'bash Funpub' topic, but I'll be honest: messing things up and then shoving other people under the bus is what they do. Stuff that goes wrong is never ever their fault, and the problem always came from somewhere else.
I find it quite distasteful and respectless to club members and Transformers fans how they never take any responsibility whatsoever.

This is mostly about their services and figures, mind you. I've not been to Botcon so I cannot accurately judge their abilities to run a huge convention. :)  And even in shitty companies there are still always many good people who do their best to make things work.

Anyway, the info on how the QC is handled differently would be very interesting. Is it the size of the run? Is it working with different instruction materials? Is it a money issue?
I really hope it's not the latter: how awful would it be if Funpub themselves decided to cut costs on QC, and now lays the blame with first Hasbro and then the manufacturer. That would be really, really terrible.

I think I remember reading something about that, but what was the problem exactly? Kind of looking into getting an Electro.

The short version of the Hasbro conversation was "you get what you pay for" (in terms of manufacturing costs and QC effort). Takara Tomy folks are so passionate about their toys, I wish they were here in the US. They promised they would have words, but ultimately have no direct control over this issue. Hasbro only has the ability to replace FubPub which at this point is unlikely.

Assuming I'm not the only one outraged, I want to know how FunPub plans to resolve this to the fans satisfaction. This isn't an attack, and once again I'd like to keep the thread focused on that until we get an official answer. Then we can figure out next steps.

To be clear, telling me to fix them myself isn't an acceptable solution. Even if I could, I wouldn't be able to do it without damaging them - having to open my loose set bags and start mangling my box sets.

Now this has me worried cuz I have a Botcon Cannonball coming from eBay. Is the fix easy like it was with Generations Skids?

I've heard of the issues that Cannonball has had, but at this point does there seem to be a fix?

So am I to assume by this statement that FunPub didn't pay "enough" to have enough of an effort put towards "QC" to minimize such issues? Because if that's the case....shouldn't that "cheapness" transfer over to the members' costs in paying for these toys too? Oh wait...what am I saying?.....nevermind. I guess FunPub wants to make their money any which way they can since they are indeed a business, so....I guess that idea is irrelevant.

I have had some QC issues with my FP toys ; so I can't blame on them it's a design issue like Jackpot's chest not shutting correctly or his hood not fully closing and the same problem could happen randomly on any version of the mould - at least I didn't have feet that tear the paint off like my Animated Jazz does..

I also had a Kup with a missing rivet joint in his arm, and a Depthcharge with a split in his arm and two right shoulders.

Overall I've been very lucky though even my various Botcon seekers don't have the typical issues like split feet hinges.

The Electro missassembly error was quite easy to fix though a guide piece inside was just flipped over by mistake stopping him from fully closing up into robot mode correctly under 4 or 5 screws and flipping it was a pretty simple fix.. I understand the flipped shoulder error isn't easy to fix though.

    -------

As to fun pub since all the toys come in bags and they have to open them to make boxed sets they can at least test a few for flaws... and if a lot pop up then do something about it if possible.
I know I'd be very annoyed if I 'd got two left of something on a very expensive toy.

Talked with executives and designers @ Botcon while TakaraTomy's Hisashi Yuki (masterpiece designer) was sketching me a star saber.
