Okay, talked with my dad to place the stereotypes: Snaptrap: Pirate Captain Overbite: Viking Seawing: French Admiral Skalor: British Chef w/Parrot Nautilator: Conquistador My dad predicted that Tentakil would be the Bosun with a Cat O'Nine Tails
Bos'n? Excuse my inner sailor (Bosun's are our sworn enemies) I think it would be better if he had a Cat O'Ten Tails, unless one of his tenticles got chopped off.
nice work, i like the little touches like the arcee tattoo. couldn't wait for the group to be finished, hope you don't mind (msg me if you do and i'll delete it) - for tentakil my vote's with this guy:
Definitely the stature, not the pants.. the knee being angled in. Straight legged and there's no problem at all -
!!! I'm glad that someone noticed. It bends universes a bit but I thought it was funny. Thank you very, very much! I was turned away from doing art duties on a community project not too long ago because 'my style didn't fit' - which really bothered me. This is my way of proving to them that I am more than any particular style. Nautilator is a lover, not a fighter. Being a nod to the Spanish, a romantic culture, I thought it fit. Almost. I'll grant you that description fits Snaptrap. He's loosely Asian-inspired. I drew him before I had even thought of doing the others, and well before I had the idea to base them each on great naval powers throughout human history. He's not as overt in his conveyance as the others. Seawing is based on Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson of the British Empire (arguably the most important figure in the history of naval warfare). Skalor is actually based on American sailors of WW2, with the dixie cup (hat) cocked to the side, the battleship battery in the back, the beer belly, the bell bottoms-esque legs (another nod to the uniform of that time), and the pipe (which is itself a nod to General MacArthur). Nautilator's function is indeed 'Boatswain', if only because it is the most traditional title. Being that there are only 6 Seacons, though, his job entails quite a bit more than that, though. He is also the ship's mechanic, machinist mate, auxiliaryman, and Engineer. Not at all! I'm tickled that these are all popular enough to warrant such attention. As for the kiddo in the pic, sorry - that'd be part of Skalor's inspiration. - Alty
Hmm let me see.. american.. dixie cup hat.. one eye bigger than the other.. big muscly tattooed arms.. likes to eat.. pipe.. Will tentakil be olive oyl?
HMMM HMMM! Snaptrap covers Asia, so you won't see another Chinese or Indian-inspired Seacon. WHAT COULD BE LEFT?! Turtle ship - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Or /that/ guy, ha ha! And no Olive Oyl - sorry to the guys that were hoping for a Scylla homage. - Alty
Oho. Guess I was wrong; my first thought upon seeing him was "pirate chef". See, I thought the hat was a giant googly-eye simulating an eyepatch. XD The battleship battery being a galleon's cannons also crossed my mind. I didn't notice the bell-bottoms, I thought it was just a result of his legs turning into fins. XD I love all the little details in the designs of these guys. The arcee tattoo, lobster antenna mustache, little propellor on the end of the axe, Squawktalk, tail across the chest simulating a... a... Dammit, what are they called? I used to wear one, you'd think I'd remember. >.< Also, what's the V.S. on the anchor tat stand for? As for tentakil speculation... Since Skalor isn't straight-up pirate homage like I thought, I hypothesize Tentakil is instead. And not just any pirate captain, but based on Barbossa from Pirates Of The Caribbean, and I say that for a single reason: Barbossa had a pet monkey, and how can you do Squawktalk without doing Beastbox too? Regardless, I think a certain something needs to be said for when you to bring out the tentacle beast... RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!
TBH, it was your art that just a few hours ago got me looking hard into the Seacons, then I realized that TFWiki was celebrating "Talk Like A Pirate" Day, it must've been fate! Now I'm gonna build my own Seacon team! Snaptrap - Snapper Tentakil - Claw Jaw Nautilator - Gimlet (if I can't afford 'em, then Sea Clamp) Overbite - Cybershark (the non-Transmetal version) Skalor - Razorclaw (the crab, specifically the red one that came with a VHS) Seawing - ??? (Depth Charge?)
ho hum so that's a few places in europe, americas, asia.. what else? russia? africa? http://www.youtube.com/embed/NSBoO4GzHaI
A sash? The V.S. stands for Vector Sigma. Beastbox is a great idea! I honestly hadn't thought of doing him, but since you mentioned him, I have a few ideas... muwahaha! Mmmmmmmmnope. I hate RotF. In terms of naval power, I don't think Russia or Africa have ever been on the same level as, say, Great Britain, Spain, or the United States. Russia had a formidable navy during the Cold War, but it technically wasn't any more advanced than the US'. And it's only declined since the fall of Communism. And I wouldn't get Tentakil's reveal so hyped up, if I were you all. I mean... after all... it's only Tentakil. - Alty
ohhh Tentakil should be a pirate homage to davey jones from pirates of the Caribbean....or which ever guy has the tentacle beard
You'll just have to make that "something special in store for Piranhacon" even MORE awesome to make up for it, then.
