This is meant as a fun, speculative thread. Please leave all opinions of movie quality (either for TF or SW) OUT of this! This is just for fun. Here are the Un-adjusted (for inflation) box office grosses for all 6 of the Star Wars Movies, both Domestic, and world-wide, as taken from Box Office Mojo.com. The records are in Bold. A New Hope $460 Mil, 775 Mil Phantom Menace $431 Mil, 924 Mil Revenge of the Sith $380 Mil, 848 Mil Attack of the Clones $310 Mil, 649 Mil Return of the Jedi $309 Mil, 475 Mil The Empire Strikes Back $ 290 Mil, 538 Mil The first TF movie had a US Box Office of $319 Mil, and world Wide of 708 Mil, which would have put it 4th in each category. The question is: where do you think ROTF will end up, and how much do you think it will gross? Personally, I think it will get close to 370 Million in the US, and worldwide get close to 800 Million. Discuss.
alot more this time, let's hope, since the economy has been through some changes in the past 25 years.
HAHA!!! whoops, thanks for correcting me! that's actually pretty funny when i thought about it I meant $500 internationally I wonder if it can do Spider-Man, POTC DMC, Episode 1 numbers
No, I meant how is it going to make only $500 Million worldwide when the first film made over $700 Million worldwide, see what I mean?
lol...and with that money michael bay will create transformers island, where we can travel and watch real 40 foot robots battle...and then they get a mind of their own and then we're screwed-until jon connor comes to save the future
yeap, thanks for pointing that out I meant that it will make $380 domestically and $500 internationally, making it a total of $880 worldwide thus beating the first film
lol , now I see, was wondering if you had lost your mind, but I do think that it may approach 1 Billion, remember, the rest of the world is not in a recession
Always tough comparing movies like that because ticket prices used to be a lot cheaper than they are today. When tickets averaged say $5 you'd have to sell twice as many tickets as a movie today when prices average $10. I think ROTF will make more than the first film, but it's still a bit of a guessing game how much more it will make than the first film, but I get the feeling the international numbers will be the big numbers again.
i never care to factor in the dollar value changes over the years Its all the same to me especially if Titanic can make 1.8 billion back in 1996 And the original Star Wars movie making $461 in 1977 and the 1st prequel making $431 ten years ago
I think ROTF has potential to reach $800million world wide. But its going to depend on how much the public takes to it. Honestly, I think its kinda silly to compare box office takes...especialy Star Wars: A New Hope. I was seven when it was released in 1977, not a single box office hit sense then can compare to the impact that film had. There were honestly lines reaching down the block for weeks just waiting to see that film. It made the news every night, not just for the lines, but for how many times people went back and saw it (unheard of in the day). It was like a nuke exploded in popular culture...everyone quoted the film, everywhere you went. They even played the Star Wars soundtrack on top-40 radio stations! Of course Transformers was a big hit. But its impact has been no where near what Star Wars was.
