I know there's a dedicated thread for G1 love, but it's been awhile since I've posted in this thread and I just finished shooting this guy for my new blog:

It's HARD photographing white toys on a white background ... This shoot was fun though. And it's good to see everyone still bringing it with the SUPAH CLEAN PHOTOS :thumb

    This. Figure. Is. GORGEOUS!

Pics never really did it justice, but then I finally got the SOC set, and it's just incredible.

So, before I post this sweetness, I do have to give some credit where due:

xJunky - Dan, my DUDE! Got me all set up with the Protector Armor.

Alucard88 (NOT 77) - Got me the clear SOC set at a flippin' incredible price. Literally the same as what I'd pay for Roddy alone!

    With that, let's get the pic party started;

Hey, look at that! With TJ's mad skills and lots of translucent parts, even that POS Prime looks cool.
Just don't transform it into that poor excuse for a truck... -_-

Also, I'm starting to notice the limits of the macro focus settings you have to work with.
Would it help if the subject was further from the lens, so that both figure and gun could be in focus?
Or are you deliberately restricting your depth of field for stylistic effect?

Hahaha he really IS a POS.

And, you got it on the latter option. It's not as much "style" as it is showing DOF in general. I can easily up my Aperture and hit my figure and 50 ft. away crystal clear, but the problem is that the picture, when all of it's clear, looks very "flat", which gives it a cheap, point-and-shoot feel. Takes away from the life of the picture.

If you look in your peripheral view in general, you'll notice that when you're focused on one thing, things closer and farther away are not as clear.

Like I said, good DOF gives pictures life, and they look "3-D" in comparison to "all fields clear".

Thanks! Those last pics are of Grimlock, right? He sure is a nice toy for an RID era figure. Shit.

I've never really looked at that figure up close (only have the universe SE edition), but really did they really make the waist and shoulders regular (non transparent) plastic? :lol  why would they do that???

nice pic, but man, warrants me to never pic up that prime! I thought the whole thing was clear :(

I'm still marveling over how cool Grimlock looks. The aesthetic of it is so "timeless". If it had proper elbow/forearm articulation, I would have it on my classics shelf right now. Love it.

Meh. I've had mindwipe for some time now, but no real place in my collection for him. I'm hoping the headrobots kit gives me a reason to unbox him.

Looking fantastic! One of my favorite sets of figures!

yeah he was hit or miss with a lot of people. I remember you saying before you never really cared for the design. I dig it though and the skystalker combo is fun.

I still need to pick up countdown. never picked up the original cybertron version, and I like the universe repaint cause it's a bit reminiscent of his micromaster version, which I loved as a kid.

Mindwipe has one of my favorite head-sculpts, so trying to G1ify him can only make him less impressive imo
