good job misreading what they said
Yeah, I'd like to be optimistic, too. But after five bad movies, and the one good movie that only happened because the top guys pretty much left it to someone else to pick the pieces, while they did a runner after their last screw up, I guess I won't be rushing out to the cinema from what I've seen, so far.
It's the combo of G1 Jazz-style alt mode and stripe on the bonnet and Bayverse Jazz silver deco that has me baffled as to why this is Mirage.
This has puzzled me as well. This is the disconnect that has left me to believe the people in charge have no clue, and really don't care what the characters are called.
This may just be more of the same treatment the last movies received because, as far as I understand, the movies were never aimed at the fandom, but rather bringing in a larger crowd of action movie enthusiasts with no real concern for the franchise.
"Robots! Explosions! Michael freaking Bay" it's obviously going to be a 100 times better than Armegeddon.
We will only know for sure when the movie comes out. So far, they're calling him Mirage. Might be a trick. It wouldn't be the first time.
Instead of #4, Jazz is now #59 like his parking spot.
It might be the grey, but I could see James Bond driving this car.
Yes. Fair enough. But if we are agreed on that point, and if you understand that's my position as well, then there should be no reason to frame the post you replied to (or any other post) as simply being inflexibly unreceptive to anything that isn't G1 or to boil your response down to "this isn't G1" and (simplifying/paraphrasing) "colors change all the time in Transformers." Neither of which had anything to do with my points.
Especially since - I again reiterate - the bulk of the post you responded to actually discusses ways I think a Porsche could work as Mirage depending on how bot mode is handled, and very openly discusses the fact that this isn't G1, and how that gives them wide latitude in terms of ways they could implement that. As such, it would be welcome to receive a reply consisting of more than, "This isn't G1" or pointing out that the color scheme isn't strictly speaking owned by Jazz. Since that was never at issue.
That is all.
It’s obviously Freeway Jazz from animated. Duh.
Actually if they called this character Freeway would’ve been a small nod to this recolor of Animated Jazz that only the uber nerds would catch.
Try re-reading what I actually said.
I said I questioned why they called him Sideswipe and not Tracks, because narcissit Tracks would have chosen that concept Stingray. In other words, that Stingray would have been more perfect for Tracks, though they went with Sideswipe.
I went onto say that although he is officially Bayverse Sideswipe, I choose to call him by the name Stryker. It's called personal preferance, my friend.
I think Movie Sideswipe was just a case of them using a name that seemed fitting for the design and general character archetype, like was commonplace in the Unicron Trilogy days. Sleek sports car that moves around quickly and has swords? Sideswipe. I don't think he was ever intended to be a live action incarnation of G1 Sideswipe, or Tracks, or any pre-existing character.
(Now that said, Sideswipe as a name may have been in producers' minds since Orci/Kurtzman originally had Sunstreaker and Sideswipe as "the Twins" in their first draft of ROTF, and "the Twins" went on to become Skids and Mudflap in the final movie).
So, Jazz, but in Bluestreak’s colors, with a name that makes every TF fan think of a Formula race car. Makes perfect Bay-sense.
Stryker's a pretty dope name to be honest.
You could've called most of the movie characters anything and it wouldn't have made a difference, that's how little thought went into the characters themselves. Tracks fits just as much as Sideswipe, or Fastlane, or Viper, or Mirage, or any other name they could've slapped onto him.
Though admittedly I do like your reasoning why you call him Tracks, it at least makes a bit of sense.
Exactly. This is also true in other eras of the brand too in some manner or another. So it feels odd to get worked up about it now since like I've said before there's nothing stopping Jazz from being a Porsche and having his G1 robot mode later on in future TF movies. Besides there's also nothing stopping Mirage from having his classic G1 alt mode at some point in the future either or really any other different car mode. Like say he comes across a race track later on and needs to blend in so he picks up a formula racer. Again in the Bumblebee movie Bee was able to switch between different Earth vehicle modes one of which was of course his VW Beetle mode from G1 so it wouldn't be that far off.
I mean yeah it's possible that Mirage here could be a nameslap but again from what we've heard about his robot mode and personality that doesn't sound like it'll be the case at all. The people behind this movie are looking to be pretty serious about retaining certain character's iconic traits as much as possible. We'll ultimately have to wait and see what his robot mode will look like before coming to that conclusion.
Mirage's robot mode was not shown at the event. Any details online you've read about his appearance are fake.
Totally agree. However in my head. I see Blitz as a seeker who got wrecked and then Shockwave put him back together giving us the "Animated" version of Blitz. Which is my favorite version of the guy.
So this is what people have been losing their shit over. I guess I\'m the only one that\'s not bothered by this. I get it\'s Jazz\'s alt mode, but I don\'t see this as a permanent change to Mirage. In a few years well get another show with Mirage and he\'ll be the formula one car, plus we\'ll probably gat at least 10 new figures of classic Mirage and Jazz.
The thing that sticks out to me is that Mirage isn't just a Porsche, he is a Porsche that has a deliberate blue strip painted on his body that wasn't particulary common on cars of that model. Even if he is not Jazz, I feel like he is definitely a reference to Jazz.
The fact that Bumblebee had a Willys Jeep form and the whispers of Mirage apparently changing alt modes during the film makes me wonder if Mirage is a similar situation where the Director wanted to homage a vehicle from the cartoon with an alternate body of one of the characters.
Honestly, not everything that looks similar to something else is a reference. When you're dealing with a franchise that's nearly four decades old, the same automobile manufacturers and even the same vehicles are going to pop up multiple times. There are a lot of popular cars, but it's still a finite number. It's the same problem Star Wars has with ecosystems. If they use a desert planet, it's going to feel similar to Tatooine. If they use a snow planet, it's going to feel similar to Hoth. They've pretty much exhausted all the main types of ecosystem, so now they mostly just combine stuff (like a dessert with snow).
Same thing here. If they use a Porsche, people will say it looks like Jazz. If they use a Mustang, people will say that's Barricade's territory. If they use a Lambo, people will wonder why it's not Sideswipe. Heck, there are people who claim Michaela's scooter in the '07 film is Sqweeks just because both are blue Vespas. Pretty much everything's been done, and even the things that haven't been done will remind someone of something because of a similar coloring or headlights or something. I don't think this is a reference to Jazz, and I don't think Bumblebee was a reference to Hound. Just a case of two different storytellers using the same popular vehicle/manufacturer 37 years apart from each other.
Thank you, I'm working so much, so I appreciate your compliment.
Wait a minute, forget everything, oh my Primus.
Now Im think that new altmode for Mirage is a multireference.
Colors and blue parts are reference to Alternator Mirage, autobot symbol is reference to a Legion class Dino/Mirage. I just dont get yet what are the references to SS and MA Mirage, maybe is about robot mode, or he will have cuchillas en los brazos.
Thinking about it, I don't believe James Bond has ever driven a Porsche in any of the films, but I could be wrong.
Can't tell if this is a joke...
