TF: Prime Voyager Skyquake & Dreadwing upgrades (Shapeways)
    Update November 17, 2012

Some new toys for 2 poor, dead bots.

This thread will be special as I'll be showing 2 distinct sets. I will first be showcasing pictures of Skyquake's stuff, and then of Dreadwing's so that there is no confusion. Thanks to those who have helped out in this project's development and those who have contributed advice and references.

It took longer than I'd anticipated though!

    Enjoy!

    Skyquake's Massive Minigun!

The minigun comes with 2 posable handles so that the figure can hold it in as many
different poses as possible. The front barrels spin, but your mileage may vary
depending on how tight the print is. Mine was too tight, as it were.

The rear handle is secured to the weapon by a 3mm diameter pin. If you lose it
you can always use a cyberverse weapon handle as a makeshift solution.

"Yeah, no one really puts it there. How is the pilot supposed to see?"

    Assembly.

    Dreadwing's Big Blaster!

Dreadwing's weapon works pretty much the same way as his twin's, with 2 movable handles.
Assembly is pretty similar too, down to the pin-secured rear handle.

This set also comes with his sword which attaches to the bottom of the blaster via 3mm c-clip.
It's longer, more detailed and sharper than the stock version, so...

    "Seriously, NO ONE."

    Assembly.

Comments and critique much, much welcome!

You are the master of shapeway!! The level of thought and details is astounding. You could have just printed it solid, but instead you have moving pieces and joints, and it lips on his back. The level of design is inspiring.

    These are beautiful.

Will you be the one to fashion Megatron's Prime arm and sword? I hope someone with your level of expertise tackles this soon.

These look absolutely amazing! Any chance we may see some black strong/flexible replacement parts for all the crappy rubber bits (other than his head)? They seem like they would be simple compared to your usual level of detail.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I really appreciate it!

Well, sometimes adding joints is much better than making it a solid piece as you have more freedom to play with the design. Sometimes it saves volume and costs as well. :)

Will I be the one? I don't know...I've gone on ahead and done the Etnarium so there's nothing stopping me from forging (haha.) the rest of the pieces, right?

Well, they might look simple, but they are much harder to get right than the weapons. The main difficulty is to replicate those curved shapes exactly so they fit in jet mode. Detail is easy, shapes are not, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, it's unlikely I'll do them replacements cuz I was just studying the figure and I realised most of the rubber parts are pinned or glued in place. There's no neat way of removing them without harming the figure. This, and the abovementioned difficulty. Apologies...

Nice! You seriously have a good eye for detail. I wasn't aware that the forge was your creation too.

Have you done heads too? If not, will you be? I know Dr. Wu has done two (that I know of), but if I'm not mistaken, his Prime head is for the first edition. Anyway, I'm curious to know what all are you doing, weapons only or all things that have a market? Keep up the great work, man. You are very, very good!

    Thank you.

Well, we as a bunch create whatever stuff the fans want, reasonably.
For my own projects feel free to check back on my thread history or my Facebook page for more info. You might find things you'd really like!

The one thing Dreadwing needs is a piece to cover his hands in jet mode. Maybe it could wrap around them and turn into a shield?
